I've stop the day I get one game which got a meaning name for its MC.
Jokes about it, related to reference etc.
So now, I give my trust to dev to choose a wise name to their MC.

I'll always change it given the option (which should always be an option). I have a generic one I got from a character I played in a tabletop rpg once, and I've started switching it out for another of the same.

First time through a game is always default. If replaying, depends on the MC's character and whether I thought the default fit or not, arbitrarily.

I try to keep default unless i'm commited to a joke or i'm forced to choose one. I never felt like using my name might be too prideful of me but i feel like i'd lose something if i did. It is kinda funny that some persona games don't have enough characters to actually use the default name of the MCs thoughs
