The problem often is, that dev didn't think out the end game, and got stuck some where. How do you want to finish the game now?

Other option is dev started using a new renderer-programm (version), and the result is much better than in earlier chapters (Now agree with you).

Another possible situation could be that dev lets his game decide by patreons, some direction, he didn't think off, or they want more content.

Last option, the people didn't like a certain character, for example the ugly neighbor in maid to please. She got removed, not sure what kind of change in the story that needed.

So I think only the first is a reason to go back, but then again dump dev.
If you look at Origin Story (and probably anything from NLT), dev already had the whole story inclusive all the details planned about before starting the rendering...
