Best movie sequels of all time!

saw it on imax, was grinning ear to ear the whole time.
Just saw it recently but Dune part 2 has to be up there
Yeah.... But Dune 2 is a story completion. I think that should be a different category than a sequel.

Dune 2 is not that dissimilar than saying the Game of Thrones, episode 2 is a great sequel to episode 1...

Terminator 2 is the easy answer Terminator is already great so to outshine the original is something truly special you rarely see.

One I didn't see is Dawn of the Dead (not the shitty 2004 remake). It does improve on Nights formula and I think is generally a better movie.

Empire Strikes Back and Godfather 2 are literally the trope establishing examples of a sequel 'exceeding' the original movie.
Yet Empire was never nominated for best picture or screenplay, and John Williams even was robbed of an Oscar for best score. Fame beating Empire Strikes Back for best score was downright criminal.

Terminator 2
The Godfather 2
Star Wars V
Top Gun Maverick

Great movie though.

In 100 years, John Williams (and Ennio Morricone) are going to be viewed like Beethoven.

Same with Endgame. Definitely agree that they should be measured by a different metric.

I guess I'll need to watch that. I've been a bit turned off by the explosion of superhero movies. So much Deus ex Machina in the superhero movies, to overcome bad writing, woke bullshit, and cookie cuter characters. But, But big explosions! CG!

I know there's treasure out there, but difficult to separate the needle from the haystack.

I'm not really a big MCU fan, the quality varies wildly. And i hate how every film is a commercial for the next one, how formulaic, assembly line corporate filmmaking they are. They made so much of it, the number of shows as well its like a homework assignment to follow it all. The very antithesis of film as an artform, i see why Scorsese sees them as anti film.

Kung Fu Panda 2. We got Po's origin story (made me cry), the villain is a peacock Gary Oldman who's integral to said origin story, and the fight scenes are some of the best in the series.
