I really try to give the story a chance but sometimes a game has really cringeworthy dialogue and horrible characters so I'll speed ahead to see if it gets any better. It almost never does.
It depends how horny I am and close to the climax, I'm a speeder.
In the beginning I'm reading lot stuff, but it should be meaningful for the story. Some games have too much text in it.
I've covered it on a different post, but it depends on the story, really. If you want players to read everything, you gotta make it good, for one, and for two, you gotta give them breaks in dialogue spam. Nothing worse than a dining room scene that goes on for 90 minutes of exposition, or trivial conversation. A good example of good pacing is A Petal Among Thorns. Good dialogue, good pacing. Didn't need to skip once.
