are movies at the theater dead??

I'd rather watch a movie at home (even if it means waiting a little longer to see it), because;

Can I smoke while watching?
Cinema: ❌Home: ☑️

Can I pause the movie to go to the toilet?
Cinema: ❌Home: ☑️

Can I enjoy the movie in peace and quiet without others yapping:
Cinema: ❌Home: ☑️

Can I eat whatever I want while watching? (such as a cooked meal)
Cinema: ❌Home: ☑️

Additionally, I'm lazy AF, so going to the cinema involves getting dressed > going to the cinema > watching it > going back home.
Whereas staying at home I just have to press Play.
I don't smoke, but can drink beer. Also, it doesn't cost a fortune to see at home.

I personally like going to cinema...some movies aren't made to be watched at home, unless you have a super advanced system...

My first job was working at a movie theatre. Way back in the early 1990s. $4.25 an hour, which was plenty for how much work it was. The theatre was packed all the time. Things were "affordable" way back then. Movies were Funny, way less Woke, anyone with a nice Home Cinema were Rare.
Now... not so much.

Good question, I mostly download the movies today, and as most are full with LGBT, and other WOKE nonsense, they are not worth my money anymore. Just watch the latest shit from marvel, most suck, you can check the IMBD score it's really low. (I'm not talking about deadpool, the others with so called strong woman).
.
But the bigger problem for me was their refusal during covid, I never did a covid check, or vaccination, so I wasn't allowed in. There were a few shops who really refused me, so I said bye and never went back. Same with that dumb cinema, we have a very big one, but neither the movies nor the extreme high prices for popcorn are worth it anymore.
.
Those dumb cinema's always leave some light on, so the movie isn't that clear anyway.
.
Of course they make more money, because the prices are higher, but I would be interested to see how many people visited in 2015... 2024...

Since the theaters have switched to digital projection I hate going to the movies. They are too dark and not clear.
I remember the fantastic 35mm cinamascope movies of the past SO clear and bright !!!

I haven't been to the cinema in so many years I can't even remember when.
Precious few movies made today are worth watching at any rate. Many of my kids age seem to feel the same as I've heard they'd rather watch older films.

Reminds me, I need to buy sound dampening mats for the media room to build sound traps before upgrading the surround.

many years ago it used to be 50% of at the cinema where i live, every wednesday i think it was. even popcorn and soda was half of.
I used to go every week. not just because it was cheep, it just became a thing. i loved it.
It must be like 15 years ago i was last at the cinema now. so ye. guess you could say its dead to me.

No need to go to the cinema to watch Dune 2, it's on Amazon Prime Video. :)
And on torrents in UHD quality. For free.
But that didn't save the movie for me. It's a mediocre piece of work. I'd rather watch three hours of Lynch's adaptation.

I dont believe that cinema theater is going to die. Radio isnt "dead", is just a niche now. Personally I went to the theater like 1 or 2 times a year. Been there a couple of weeks ago, and the room was 3/4 full.

Also, i believe is going to be a rebound around streaming platforms. People are a little unsatisfied with it. They are putting ads and raising prices anyway, get more restrictions each time, etc. The greed of the platforms is what i believe can keep the cinemas on business.

A lot are too dark on TV/monitor screen, too. Just shot that way. Can't see a damn thing sometimes.

great television screens, great audio systems... Yeah Cinema is as good as dead.

TBH there aren't any movie theaters very close to me, either. No idea what it costs now, but once it was like 8 bucks a ticket, that was too much.

Most movie as shit these days. They need to try to make actual good movies.

It actually cost me a bit more to have a better experience at home depends on the movie. A 4K disc can run you 30-40 dollars. Popcorn is cheap. Soda is decently priced even in this economy. Candy is cheap if you know where to buy it. On the whole except for the movie costing more everything else is probably 40% less expensive. Unless you are with some friends or family and get pizza then things can become exorbitant.

It would seem that there is no more imagination left in the film industry. They just make more and more remakes, or they make movies that are crap. Rarely something decent will come out.

30 dollars for a permanent rental 3-4 months before a movie gets a physical release is crap. I think I have done it like 3 times and the movies never were good enough to justify it. Frozen Empire I'm still furious over and want a refund. Never have felt so cheated out of a cinematic experience not even on Last Jedi.

I should known better, should have just bought the 4K of the 1984 movie and called it a day.

While still not close to the large screen and sound system that you can get at most movie theaters, with access to large screen TVs, in home sound systems, and new movies one can watch in the comfort of their own home I think going to the movie theater, also given the cost, is something people now do if they want an excuse to go out or want to see, what to them, is that 'special' movie where the big screen etc. makes a difference.
