I haven't seen a great movie in such a long time. seeing movies that use old jokes and old or bad ideas are the only thing out. I fall sleep at oscar won movies. but 90 percent cgi is the worst.. I lose so many IQ's watching those ridiculous movies.. what do you think about movies that have been out the last 5 years.. thank you for your time thank you for reading my thread

I wait until they get on streaming platforms, that's when I know the pirate sites should have them in good quality. I cba going to the theater unless it's for a movie I feel like it's worth it like Dune Part 2.

It has become more of a niche thing for me. I will go see a big spectacular movie at the theater for all the effects. But all other movies I might just as well view at home

I think that quality of movies coming from Hollywood is in steady decline for the last 20 years or so. I think people should not reward bad movies by giving them good revenue at theater.

Nothing has come out worth getting robbed by the theater. At this point you're either getting "educated" on how life should work in the minds of a few people, or you're dealing with Marvel films that have long ago stopped being interesting.

I think with all the streaming options movies at the theater have to basically be a huge hit for it to be worth it for them. Like risky movies that take a chance with a weird premise just do better on streaming since it costs less. I do still go for the big movies like Dune for example. It's just a better experience I think!

They're definitely dying. I think it's a mixture of dogshit scripts these days/remakes/biopics and on the other side there being easy access to tons of content with OTT platforms + having your own home theatre setup.

i believe streaming services are partially to blame for the decline in cinema goers - why spend money on your car, food, and a ticket, when you could just watch something from the comfort of your own home?
the pandemic didn't help either - probably the biggest factor for the decline.
lastly, the current climate in hollywood - for example crappy disney movies being pushed out, and movies made for "modern audiences" seems to have put regular people off going to the cinema

just a thought

I still like going to the theater, I find it fun.
yeah its a fun experience indeed. really enjoyed watching Dune part 2 at an IMAX theatre with its booming sound system. but given the cost of living, people need to be more picky with what they spend their money on.

Nah, I don't think it is about cost.. going to cinema is experience well worth your money by its own.. if you have a good movie you wanna watch.
i see what you mean by "cinema experience", and i do agree its worthwhile, so long as the movie itself is good too. the point i was trying to make was that, if you could only pick from two options - do i choose to spend extra, or do i do whats more economical?. Of coarse if you have disposable income you can do whatever the hell you want with it, but not everyone has that luxury.

Streaming services can never replace that kind of experience.
true, you would have to invest a lot of money for a home cinema set up, and it still doesn't come close
yep. I'm seeing a lot of franchises losing viewership - take Doctor Who for example. while not quite a movie - the fans are fed up with their favorite media being turned into trash

Haven't gone since 1993. Used to do VHS then DVD. Then some from like itunes and Amazon. Last decade or so almost all I pirate. Fuck streaming platforms, those are for rich people.

The modern movie industry is such a all or nothing industry, all the money is being funneled into a hadfull of giant, bloted, flavourless gambles based on preexisting IP, we're at a point where movies make $400 mill and are considered a bust, it's just absurd.

I watched Dune Part II in an Imax theatre not too long ago. Absolutely mindblowing. Probably the greatest movie theatre experience I've had since watching the Lord of the Rings movies. For that type of grand epic movie, there's just no way even a great home theatre can compete.

Going to movies used to be an experience, but now it is too costly and there are too many people that I don't like. A few years ago the movie audience type, which I was one of, made it an experience, but now that same movie audience absolutely destroys the movie watching experience for me. Maybe it is my bad hearing from younger years, etc, but the movie all too often gets drowned out by the audience now and at moments when I want a bit of introspection, I don't want to be surrounded by people I don't like.

A big screen tv and fantastic stereo system is a much better movie experience for me now.

Definitely, I've got a 5.1 surround system and an OLED TV at home and a slight obsession with building my own Plex library so I get a great movie experience at home. It will take something special for me to go back to a movie theater.

Too expensive and the theaters are too far away. Also, a lot of them suck.

nahh a lot of people still like to go out and see movies the Oppenheimer + barbie combo proved that. Much more fun and memorable then just watching it at home plus easier to watch since i dont need to sign up for some random service i dont want just to see 1 movie.

Maybe yes, Streamings are a reality, but cinema still moves the market a lot

last movie i went out to watch and enjoyed was Boy Kills World which felt like watching something from the 90s, early 2000 and was a blast. I find myself watching less from the main studios these day as they all feel like the're not even trying anymore to entertain.
