For me they are. I just wait for whatever movie to hit streaming services and enjoy it at the comfort of my home. Plus tickets, popcorn and drinks are way overpriced. Not to mention some people have no decency and yap while the movie is playing.

It's just a few event movies will crack a billion these days. You really can't predict which films will flop and which will take off in a big way, as much as the studios would like an actual formula for success that is 100% able to be replicated.

If they can offer value and lower ticket prices or better entertainment i could see a return to theaters. But people going to the movies weekly is a thing of the past.

i hardly go anymore. mostly just isn't worth it and id rather just sail the high seas and chill at home

Movies aren't dead, it's just that its harder to find movies you actually like in my opinion.

I no longer see what's funny in comedy and I see that they're boring, it's not like before.
Horror the same boring
That's why I migrated and went to kdramas: v

The atmosphere of a movie theater is unbeatable at times but it is just the effort and price to go to one which puts me off so often, not to mention I don't really want to watch most of the movies in theatres.

I used to go to the cinemas almost every week with a group of friends, now I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been in the last five years and usually only with one or two other people at most. People don't know how to make good movies anymore and cinema ticket/food prices have more than doubled, the industry brought this entirely on themselves.

I haven't seen a great movie in such a long time. seeing movies that use old jokes and old or bad ideas are the only thing out. I fall sleep at oscar won movies. but 90 percent cgi is the worst.. I lose so many IQ's watching those ridiculous movies.. what do you think about movies that have been out the last 5 years.. thank you for your time thank you for reading my thread
movie theaters will eventually go the way of arcades and outdoor theaters

I miss going out with friends to movie events like Avengers where the cinema would be packed. The cinema is definitely not like it used to be.

Watched Nosferatu and that's about it for 2024 to now. Canceled my AMC membership too. Doesn't seem like there's anything worth watching lately. And on streaming only a handful are worth the watch too. Seems like movie makers are just painting by numbers these days. Silo and Fallout are stand outs and I bet both tank as they try to formulate a corporate strategy around them. Wheel of Time and Rings of Power were utter disappointments (massive wastes of money).

Movie theatres are only dying because there aren't many movies worth paying that much to see.

If I want to see a current movie, I'm looking at 15 bucks per ticket (minimum, depending on which cinema), then if I want a drink or a snack that's at least the same again, probably per person, so going with one other person costs me at least 60, plus travel, and there's just not much out there that I think is worth that much, when I can in many cases stream it soon after for the cost of my existing Netflix/Disney+/etc subscription, and get drinks and snacks for essentially pennies.

If movie studios produced things worth seeing at the cinema, and didn't rip the ass out of the cinemas when charging them to show the film, then maybe costs would be lower and more people would go.

personally I barely went to the theather before and now I don't go anymore. I never cared much about watching a movie on release or the viewing experience at the theater.

It definitely feels like its dying. Me and my roomies still enjoy doing "Date Nights" where go out to grab dinner and then catch a movie. Usually our reward for surviving another week, lol.

Well cinema is not dead, I give gift certificates all the time. Last month even I went in to buy it and a young girl probably just 18 was all flushed coming to the register with her manager an older man walking behind her. Wonder what they were up to before I came in.

I like watching movies in Theaters its a different feeling sitting there. On the other hand watching at home is also kinda convenient

i mean with the amount of correct movie with the price of a ticket / food drink that cost so much it doesnt help greed is what kill them

Nah, not dead yet. Just dying. Some Marvel movies are still mindless fun (if you like explosions and fights on a big screen). And every 10 years or so a piece of art comes out. Like 'The Artist'.
