I think capers are kinda like zombie food -- they are good forever, like kalamata olives. Actually I looked it up - they say 2 years -- I KNOW mine were at least 4 years old and they tasted fine.

For many canned and jarred goods, the use by date is a bare whiff of a suggestion. And it's almost always a 'best before' date where there's no noticeable change from 'fresh', not a 'safe before' date.


And would you consider putting those creepy images (roaches, spiders, etc) in an inline spoiler tag, please? Like this:

Does anybody want to save me with a food suggestion before I fix myself some boring ramen?

Guess how many times I've had ramen in my almost half century of living?

I add crap to ramen, sometimes replacing hte seasoning packet completely. I use some or all of these:

• Peanut butter (I use the 'grind your own in the bulk section; it's got no added sugar etc), during cooking or after, your choice (during changes the consistencey more) which 'completes' the protien, makes it sweet and 'saucy'
• Green onions/Scallions (always after for me when I use 'em.)
• Granulated Garlic
• Fresh Garlic
• grated ginger (from the root I keep in the freezer)
• Dried herbs (thyme is my fav, but ydy)
• Sriracha or Chili Garlic Sauce
• An egg (partway through cooking)
• thinly sliced meat (cooked is easiest, so usually pork loin roast leftovers)
• Chopped or shredded cabbage

This all sounds good, perhaps I should try ramen. I've had Pho many times, what are the differences?

From context, I'd guess you've never tried ramen

It's been about 30y since my town has contained a Viétnamese Restaurant and I only went once while it was open and don't recall having phô even then. I've only had phô in 'Phô Cup' prepackaged form. I didn't care for it, as it was really only sweet tasting and nothing else for me. The noodles were slimmer, more 'cohesive' and a little less chewy than prepackaged ramen.

Honestly, making prepackaged ramen with fixins' takes about 5-7 mins.
