I mean hasbro owns D&D which is what Larian games used the license for, but Balders Gate and Neverwinter have been in games for twenty years

Yes Sony got lucky with a new ip, but it's still Sony a very big publisher.

the point being that it's as far as it gets from being an "indie production".

That's one problem with people parroting generalized takes. it becomes "anything similar to what i like is good and anything else is bad" and that's just now how shit works.
There's plenty of good/bad/terrible and great indie productions and big studio productions.
There's also the fact that people sometimes fail to differentiate between not liking a product, not liking company practices or not liking the marketing or god forbid that people with different views like the same thing as them.
