So, thus far on Steam the new Dragon Age game has mostly positive reviews with nearly 5000 reviews. And refreshingly, the negative reviews are largely full of genuine criticisms, rather than ignorant assholes frothing at the mouth over character creation options and one or two scenes as they try telling you a rubber duck in a tub is actually a cruise ship devouring kraken.

A compilation of criticisms of the game: The combat is all hack and slash and a major departure from previous titles, as you can't control your companions; you have to take one of every class rather than the companions you want (so no all-mage parties); the game feels like it's wearing a dragon age mask rather than being a dragon age game; story feels flat and characters feel like they're overly pristine cosplays of characters with shallow conversation skills, like talking with children; feels like you're being railroaded along a tour of important characters from previous entries.

So, from what I've seen from the trailers and showcases and reviews, my conclussion is this: It shouldn't have been a dragon age game, or at the very least not a mainline entry. The game should either have been new IP, or maybe a smaller side game that's semi-connected to the mainline story. Because it already feels like that's what it is. I know the "ugh, game woke, game bad" crowd would still be annoying about it, but at least it would have left the option of a true Dreadwolf game on the table then.

Spoiler: A positive and negative review from Steam

I like it more then I thought I would actually.

It's hard to shut out all negative stuff. It's hard to have faith in EA/Bioware after last couple of years.
But it's actually much better then I anticipated.

Story seems okish so far. Some writing / dialouge is kinda' bad but it's not horrible and some of it is good. I am curious about where the story goes and what choices I will have to make. There's already been quite a few after only 5 hours.

Combat is really great. Fluid and flashy. I really think they nailed it and it's a huge step-up from DA:I that tried to be more action-like.

Maps are not open but have enough exploration that you do need to look around and find loot. Itemization is a standard aRPG/MMO formula with rarity, stats and stuff. Nothing special but it looks ok so far. I assume there will be unique / legendary loot later on.

Companions are good (so far as I only have 3) and even the one many seem to be annoyed by I don't mind.

For now it's probably a 7 or 8. Might go up or down but I really recommend it if you're into RPGs with actionlike combat. Do yourself a favor and ignore all hate that this game seems to get from so many. I really don't see any of it being justified if you are 1) a gamer and 2) a normal decent human. Just watch some gameplay and judge from what you see. For me it's so far a really fun and engaging game, no GOTY but still very fun and one of the better I played this year.

I'm a diehard dragon age/bioware fan, i've been playing all their games since neverwinter nights and jade empire.
Dragon age origins was a masterpiece, the sequel was great(i dont mind the action gameplay) and i enjoyed inquisition.

But i'm 2 hours in, and a few problems already arise.
The world has dissappeared from this game, every character feels like they went to the same school, same village, we're just running on crash bandicoot tracks, every companion is joking even though the world is ending, and people are supposedly dying everywhere.

I hope this gets more dragon-agey, but initial impression is bad, the immersion is not there yet.

I feel out of place with this character, a nobody who just happens to make friends and meet every npc from the previous games x.x feels like cheap cameos in a railroaded movie, rather than characters you can have a meaningful interaction with.

What's this "starting out as an allknowing hero" when every dragon age game has been a game about slowly being introduced to the world through your character. It feels like Rook might aswell have been the inquisitor from DA:I, since he/she is so determined to save the world, despite having no real connection to it.

At this point i feel like assassin's creed has better dialogue options and choices.

What are you guys using for your gif sources, giphy seems pretty limited in terms of what im looking for when i search for gifs

Here's a small rundown I made, though it might need expanding... I shall add some edits.

For base gifs:

or google. also, gelbooru, realbooru, sex.com too look up r rated gifs, just remember the rules when posting. For basic editing:

(this adds a watermark, you can do stuff to prepare the base beforehand with ezgif and then remove it with the same site afterwards.)

If I want to make a base gif because of source quality issues:
to grab stuff from youtube, you can select the quality.
to cut large videos (movies, shows) down to manageable clips, you can burn in subtitles into the clips.
to make higher quality base gifs than what ezgif usually provides. It's very basic and has some limitations but it can give you a nice file to then edit with ezgif and gifmemes. there's plenty of free tools out there, this is just the one I found that was lightweight and had what i needed even though it's basic/limited.

I wish today was a day off from work.
Arrived home during dawn from the work trip, only to go to work the next morning.
At least I'm coming in late, but I'd prefer not going at all. Hahaha

Tenor seems to give me problems when I try to use them

You're trying to use the media tool. that's mostly for the sites listed there. You want to use the "image" tool

You don't even need it actually, you can just drag and drop from another tab directly into the reply box.

For me it does not move. Only when opened in a new tab...

Copy pasting doesn't work in certain desktop browsers like chrome. Drag and drop is the easiest.

Download the gifs, then drag and drop them in.
That's what I do.

I only download them if I want to edit them later, you can favorite gifs in tenor and have quick access to them without using your own storage.

On to further research results - I have tried to find the origins of our good friend Bonk -- Whilst I could only find one early clip of that illustrious individual, the actual practice of "bonking" appears to have originated with "self bonking"

hmm. I just copy and paste. It´ll take a while to upload. But It´s 4 clicks less...

Copy/Paste doesn't work for some browsers, plus copy paste turns it into an attachment, the reply box gets locked while it uploads and takes longer for the site to process than a simple hotlink, which is what the drag/drop or using the image button does. Doesn't matter for some if they're using 1 or 2 gifs, but delays quickly add up for longer replies.
A workaround the delay for attachments is to use the " attach files" button and let them upload in the background while you continue replaying and then inserting them into the box afterwards.
