How it works in the US? You have some X days every Y days to call in sick?
Depends on the company. Some will allow so many call offs in x amount of time, some will give you x amount of paid days off a year, and whether you use them for vacation or sick time is your business. Some will let you call off as much as you want, but you don't get sick pay. There are several ways it can work.

You call in sick, and your boss mentally penalizes you for not being a "team player" and working yourself to death.
Shit at the end of each month if I called in sick I'm sure I'd either get a guilt trip or they'd beg me to come in. I threatened a few months back about calling in sick the last day because they were starting to get to pushy and annoying me with all the stuff they throw at me at the end of the month. Since then every time i seem annoyed the bosses always come up to me and ask if I'm ok or if I need any help. There is a backup shipper but he's not nearly as good or as quick as me.

Depends on your employer. Some places have separate discretionary time off and sick time off, some only have discretionary that employees use for both, some have unlimited time off. Also a lot of people in the US are own their own business or work as contractors where they would set their own schedule.

gonna sound like a cop out answer but that would vary from job to job each company has their own policy, then theres goverment positions
Here we have federal laws that dictate how these things are handled.
Here all workers have the right to miss work if it's justified (like a sick note/medical certificate) and the employer can't punish you for doing so.
At least on theory, because some bosses will make up some excuse to fire you if you use it much, even if you have some serious sickness. Hahaha
So I get kinda confused by how it is on the States.

When my last job let me go all they told me was your no longer needed. Wouldn't even give me a legit reason. Plus they had all the big head honchos there like I was going to flip out. All i did was laugh and told them good luck. I still talk to a few people there and they aren't running anywhere near as well as it was when I was there.

This sounds way better honestly wished the states had something like that

Possible to sue the employer if they do that? Unless they laid down the proper paper trail beforehand I guess

not in the USA, but pretty much like that yes, work convention give you X amount of sick day per year, if you take more then 2 in a row you need a medical paper.

Now time for the

That's shitty. Here if the company fire someone without a justified reason, they have to pay them up to 6 months salary while the fired person search for another job.
If it's justified, like he messed up big, then well, their loss. Hahaha

It's like this as to no let the employer take advantage of the employee.
It's also the worker right by law 30 day paid vacation every year, 13th monthly salary as a bonus, and others, but nowadays many people wants for it to end saying that "the government shouldn't meddle with private businesses!" 🙄
Sure, the government take a "piece" of your salary, but I think almost every country must have this, and in our case the pros far outweight the cons in my opinion.

Yes. Like I answered above, they can't fire people without a reason, so if they want to do it, they have to pay the fees or come up with a reason.
If the reason is bullshit, you can open a labor lawsuit to get them to pay the fees that you should have since they fired you for no reason. It can takes lots of time, but it's an option.
Also, you can quit if the employer is doing something he shouldn't have (like overworking you, paying late and such), and while quiting you don't have any right to those fees, you can also open a lawsuit to get them, if you manage to prove that the employer was on the wrong.
But since most companies are shitty, it can hinder your job applications, since they'll see on your history that you had legal disputes in the past, and may not want to hire you.

(I don't think fees are the right term, but I don't know what is. It's an monetary aid)

There are some state and federal laws that deal with leave, but generally there isn't a legal requirement for paid leave, only to allow for unpaid leave. Most states allow "at-will" employment so a person can be fired without cause, although a lot of them force employers to pay for unemployment benefits for some time after if they don't show cause for dismissal. That notwithstanding most jobs have paid leave of some kind because nobody will join if they don't.

But in general US labor laws be like

Well I filed for unemployment. They fought it. After I got the job I'm at now unemployment contacted me to get my side of what happened. Apparently They couldn't give unemployment a justified reason. So I got paid for the time between.

The big joke that some employers have been going with is "unlimited vacation" which sound nice, but because you aren't granted X days per year, and a lot of people here work too much, the net result is people taking less vacation than they should.
The limiter is "you must complete the work assigned to you" so you can't just take every day off.

By law if a company gives you X days off per year, if you leave the company for any reason (fired, quit, layoff) the company owes you pay for any untaken days off. With "unlimited vacation" there is no days off granted, so no financial liability for the company. Some states like California have it in the law that if a company changes from granted time off to unlimited, they have to record for every employee how many days they had saved up and pay them for those days when they leave. And that balance is not affected by taking time after the change, as that would be unequal treatment between someone who had time saved and someone who didn't.

There are pros and cons to the American "Right-to-Work" laws a lot of states have. You can leave any time you want without notice, and you can be fired for any reason. But if you want a good reference you don't just quit, so it's a bit one-sided on who benefits.

Oh, that's better. So that part isn't that different from here, then.
I think that the difference is that here by default they'll already pay the benefit, or they will present a reason for the termination.
It's kinda automatic, you don't have to resort to the authorities unless they are lying about the justification.

I completely agree with you I would gladly agree to give up a portion of my pay as a tradeoff for those benefits you described. I don't understand how some people are so thoroughly convinced that businesses care about them as if they wouldn't fuck them over every which way in a heartbeat to save some shekels

The rich will no longer need the poor to work or to keep them safe. With an army of robot on there side it will just be a question. We they let us live seeing as it cost them nothing, keep us as pets, or kill us just to be safe?

That's a common occurrence here.
As far as I remember with every plane ticket you also got to take one baggage with you free of charge, but then some years ago the travel agencies announced that they would stopped doing that.
Many people celebrated it because "then they could lower the ticket price and it would be cheaper for those who don't bring luggage".
In reality the price stayed the same, but now you had to pay extra for the luggage.
The same thing happens to this day with half price for students and for work salary.
Some people swears that without the government acting sort like a middle man, the companies would gladly keep paying all the benefits, but you would receive even more, because there wouldn't be anything to the government!

Need 100 Coins?
futuresailorscouts-poster-png.332269

I've got a bounty hunt going where anyone who makes ai or 3d modeled art can get easy coins.

Note: unlike my usual bounty hunts, I think basically everyone is getting the prize on this one.
Based on the rewards of this relative to the 'make mime nut' bounty, we can now assume that it would take 5 sailor scouts to make mime nut!
