There are some state and federal laws that deal with leave, but generally there isn't a legal requirement for paid leave, only to allow for unpaid leave. Most states allow "at-will" employment so a person can be fired without cause, although a lot of them force employers to pay for unemployment benefits for some time after if they don't show cause for dismissal. That notwithstanding most jobs have paid leave of some kind because nobody will join if they don't.Here we have federal laws that dictate how these things are handled.
Here all workers have the right to miss work if it's justified (like a sick note/medical certificate) and the employer can't punish you for doing so.
At least on theory, because some bosses will make up some excuse to fire you if you use it much, even if you have some serious sickness. Hahaha
So I get kinda confused by how it is on the States.
