Speaking about pizza, which one is better, New York or Chicago style pizza? and why do you think it is New York?

See... I'm going to risk re-opening (sorta) the pineapple on pizza thing.

So, I'm partway through the new release of My Dorm [Trope95].
They make the obligatory pineapple on pizza is disgusting comment. Then someone mentions kiwi on pizza. So I'm thinking: Same? Better? Worse?

Bonus Unrelated Question: Kavinsky's blue person with sunglasses... thing... (dunno the technical term). I've been meaning to ask: Is that from a show / game / thing... or something original? Seems sorta familiar but it could be in my head.

I used to work at a pizza place that would refuse an order if they wanted pineapple. Same with anchovies or candy (people asked for M&Ms and Hershey Kisses from me).
If they were calling for delivery we would tell them they should call back after they rethink their 'crimes against pizza'.
It was all in good fun, but some people got really angry. I was screamed at a couple times.
But, no pineapple or fruits on my pizza. Kiwi would get so gross and mushy, too.

For me it would be the same. I like my pizza to be salty and savory so that's why I don't like pineapple on pizza. I don't even like pizza that uses sauce that's been sweetened.

Unless it's a fruit pizza or dessert pizza.

I hate pineapple on pizza but will always encourage people to try it just so they can hopefully hate it too....
I am more on the side of I hate pineapples as it is, not because it is on a pizza haha.

Detroit does them rectangular and a little thicker, right? That's the way they did it in the bakeries in Tuscany when I was there. The restaurants all did the round thing because people (tourists) expected it, but I think the rectangular sheet-pan seemed to be the more traditional method where the locals shopped and ate versus where the tourists ended up.

American food is like the English language: we took bits and pieces from the places our ancestors came from, got together over here, mixed it up a bit, learned a bit more from the Asian folks that got here a few thousand years before over the Bering land bridge, and did "fusion" before it was $100/plate in douchy restaurants. Added some twists along the way and came up with some stuff that makes folks in Europe lose their shit when they try it - Texas Red chili for example or Cajun gumbo.

And before you do that "everything is fried" bigotry, yeah, we do that, too, but so does the rest of the world - we just do it better.

I can get behind the other stuff, but anchovies are a traditional topping straight from the birthplace of pizza. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you should refuse them to people with more traditional and sophisticated palates. I bet you think "pepperoni" is the best thing on pizza - that plastic crap used over here would be dumped in the trash in Italy. And it's more of a Spanish hard chorizo than any type of Italian charcuterie. I'll eat it, but tend to avoid it if I order just for myself.

The frog and snail crowd has some excellent cheeses. Not as good as the Italians, but maybe that's why you don't like it when other people use it - you feel inferior when you try to do it with your own choices.
