Good response! Sounds like building custom strategy/synergy with a chosen playstyle that feels good to the individual is a large part of the fun. Seeing your team/strategy thrive and adapt to new challenges. Makes me wonder if there's a best/strongest/meta team or if different playstyles are really well balanced so it all can work and be fun. This is a tough question, because all Pokémon games are equally accessible, especially the newer ones.
The magic of Pokémon is that you end up growing attached to those creatures that are part of your team; we all have a favorite Pokémon, a favorite type, ways of building our teams, and rules we set for ourselves when playing.
It’s… hard to explain, because as you read this, it sounds silly, but it’s something you have to experience. In the end, the core of Pokémon is friendship and camaraderie; they’re the foundation of everything, no matter how cheesy and sappy that sounds.
From the main series, I’d recommend Pokémon Emerald, Platinum, and Black/White—they’re the best and easiest to emulate.
Outside the main series, the Pokémon Ranger trilogy is amazing and quite underrated. But the true pinnacle of Pokémon games is the Mystery Dungeon series—it’s simply perfect, especially Explorers of Time, Sky, and Darkness (there are three games; I recommend Sky and Darkness) and Super Mystery Dungeon, though there are things you won’t appreciate if you haven’t played the other titles.
