I usually don’t post much or think much about who has my data, but interested in maybe getting a VPN especially if there’s a free option someone could recommend.

Also interested if there’s any other good web hygiene to pick up aside from private browsing - like I have seen some ads for opera/opera GX and am curious if it’s a marked improvement, or if there’s a benefit to moving away from standard google search engine, etc.

See all these password and data leaks and would like to at least do the next level above bare minimum for my privacy.

I second using Brave browser or any third party browser that has a built in ad/cookie blocker, but for me it's more about user experience than security.

That being said; my pc and Microsoft accounts are under an alias and linked to a secondary email. My IP is still vulnerable, but I try not to think about it.

It's just a way for @Underlord to manipulate people into becoming trolls by convincing them that they are part of an inner circle. In reality they are restricting their ability to express themselves and incessantly shit posting about the one true reaction. You seem like an intelligent person so you would probably sus that out on your own, but many are oblivious to their own actions and how they are viewed publicly.
