I’m looking for web privacy tips if anyone here has experience with what to do as a beginner.

I usually don’t post much or think much about who has my data, but interested in maybe getting a VPN especially if there’s a free option someone could recommend.

Also interested if there’s any other good web hygiene to pick up aside from private browsing - like I have seen some ads for opera/opera GX and am curious if it’s a marked improvement, or if there’s a benefit to moving away from standard google search engine, etc.

See all these password and data leaks and would like to at least do the next level above bare minimum for my privacy.

Get a password manager and use a different "strong" password for each site. You just need to remember a master password to access your password database.

Main reason why people get "pwned" is they use the same password and similar usernames across many different websites, so if one gets hacked/leaked all their accounts are compromised.

Of course this introduces a single point of failure if you lose your password database file, so make sure to back it up regularly.
