These days it's probably graphics, I struggle with the grainy/dated look now that didn't bother me a few years ago.

After that, it's about characters and dialogue - make either of those boring and it can quickly feel like playing the game is a grind

I have to agree.
I won't even play a game with bad graphics.
Then if the writting is bad I will most of the time drop the game

Has to have SOME story or it's just a porn video without actual people. But those ones that are all story/no sex are the AVN equivalent of a "chick movie" and suck. So either extreme is bad.

Drowning in dialogue is right. Internal dialogue is especially bad. Too much yakking is more boring than watching paint dry or grass grow Lots of internal dialogue is physically painful.

I have seen a lot of differing opinions on game threads as well as the games themselves showing what the dev thinks is most important. So I wanted to know specifically what you think is most important. For me I think its pacing. A game can have a mediocre story and sex scenes, but if the pacing is off and the characters are just instantly horny for the mc it just puts me off. Doesn't feel realistic at all and it doesn't leave much point for a game imo. And seeing a character slowly become more corrupt/lewd is always a plus.

I like to set the pacing myself by determining when I do things, so for me freedom of choice about timing and activities and content is the most important.

If a game is a railroad then not being too slow or grindy is important, but I can cheat or skip through a lot of things by modifying the game or cheating, so the story or characterization is actually the most important.

Pacing for sure, the best way to lose me in the beginning is to make pages and pages of boring dialogue .

I like when you have to make decisions that actually maters and effects the progress in story. I think it ads to the realism and you feel more emerged.
