Bleh. I've never seen the appeal for horror movies. At least not the ones that trade a good story for quick scares. But I'm not sure what type of movie qualifies as horror, or what branches off into sci-fi, for example. Either way, not watching anything currently. Any recommendations?
I think it depends on what you're after. I think Event Horizon is pretty good, it doesn't lose itself to jump scares (though it does feature a few).

Good morning guys!
a blurred image of a sheep with the words hello there written above it

Jump scares are cheap. It's not really a scare, it's a startle.

the most terrified I've ever been during a horror movie is when I wanted to check the time on my phone and it wasn't in my pocket

Agree. I remember the game Scratches (a bit old). The atmosphere prepared me so well that I nearly sh*t myself just seen some trash lying on the floor.

Hey guys, how is everyone doing? I have some bad news. I don't know if I have said this already, but with my girlfriend and her mom being pregnant and work piling up, I have no time to work on my game. My baby's is due next year, meaning my hands are full, so I decided to halt the game for now. I might pick it back up for now, but it is not looking likely. So, if any devs or anyone else wants to pick it up, they can.

games can wait, family can't. Don't feel bad, there's plenty of stuff on here to keep everyone preoccupied in the meantime.😎👍

I don't agree unconditionally here. Jump scares are a valid tool, but they must be earned. Trying to spook the audience with nothing is simply lazy, but when it's done right, the jump scare takes away your ability to distance yourself from the horror. You can't simply "this is normal, this is fine, I'm not scared at all" yourself out of it.

Once or twice is ok but if the movie is nothing but jump scars then it becomes boring just my pov

that's cool. Here is an interesting fact. True story. I used to join a bunch of discord vampire servers. They believe they are (humans) a community who enjoy the drink of blood, so, anyhow, we had many talks about actual vampirism and the legends of where various things originate. The sunlight fear or how it can kill a vampire is a myth. However, I was made aware that many human vampire's in rl, have often some kind of light sensitive eyes. I certainly do. Im fine in the sun as long as it is not too bright, or I need sunnies. Interesting I thought, how this sunlight myth came about. I think Bram Stoker invented it in reality. The 19th century writers of Europe also invented some aspect, including how silver affects/harms a vampire. Not me. I have plenty silver jewelry so, maybe there is something that kills us true bloods, but not sun or silver. lol
I always like how Anne Rice did her vampire lore overall. She had a great style of writing.
I hope you all like disco, because today is disco day on the forums!
Disco is just 70s RGB
Or Draco gets a surprise
A wanted surprise amirite?
Not really, i have nothing against them growing up with a mom who loved watching them, it is just that the majority falls under snoozefest for me while the ones i have enjoyed i find myself enjoying because how silly it all looks and is so to me it is more comedy
I remember the first nightmare on elm street was scary, but it was more due to the music and the tension building. By the 3rd movie it was just seeing how can we fuck with these kids.
My Dad loved horror too, so while growing up, I may or may not have watched a ton of them, that maaaaybe I shouldn't have
The first horror movie I can remember was some electrically mutated worms THATS FEASTED ON HUMAN FLESH. OOOOHHHHHHH. The only scary thing was the idea of the worms touching you at that age
Time to yap it is, then.

Starting with:
Guess who got a shiny new (refurbished) ROG Ally this week?~
I've heard many horror stories about the Ally, and knowing how bad Asus has been lately I hope your has little problems. I've had a Steam Deck since it came out and I've adored it.

I wish they had done windows, but it's forced me to learn some Linux and tinker. It's been fun

Tiddies. Euh, I mean... fine!

The way I see it - the less inherently scary the jumpscare, the better it is.
If it solely consists of a disfigured creature blasting your ear-drums out for a split second - it's garbage. I would immediately uninstall, walk out of the theater, such and such.
But if the atmosphere is so well-crafted that you get jumpscared by a random character appearing on screen, or the sound of a bottle or something shattering on the floor (without sounding like a jet engine), then it's just mwah😙🤌
