Proud Father (Off-Topic)

Absolutely insane to be sent to prison for pixels. I can understand ** due to the victims on video, but renders don't involve any humans at all.
Australia sent someone for something that had Bart and Lisa Simpson fucking under that law. Here they sell t shirts with that cartoon.

here you can find a lot, but I couldn't find this case...

Also here I couldn't find this case...
Also his actual caseID was removed from the court database too:

It's not looking good, he was facing jail time and being sent there with a certain label attached to him..

If it's all missing, I wonder if the case could have been dropped. What's really fucked up there is when they charge someone, apparently they take everything they own, even when it's not at all related.

Or : he made a deal... ... ...

Don't know about Australia, but here it would be still logged, make the news, etc. Anyone in that country wanting to make any AVN should move first if it has any women in it that look under 30.

That would be odd, given the story was already out.
Yes the story was already out, but most of the media here ignored it. Very unusual considering the way the police carried on about him when they arrested him. To them he is an international crime lord, yet most Aussies would have no clue who he is or what he did.

They took everything because he had no other income and therefore EVERYTHING he had, could be said to have been paid for from the proceeds of crime

In his situation it would not be surprising if decided to commit suicide. He is/was most likely facing well over a decade in prison.

I don't see why they would drop the case, in australia they don't make the distinction between fictional and real content and they had more than enough evidence. Also he had already pleaded guilty.

It's really dark but there is a good chance the dude just decided to end it all.
It's seems like we will probably never know what happened to him.

That's what I would do in his situation. At the very first opportunity. Your life is ruined at that point. Who the fuck wants to serve years in prison as the lowest of the low, then get out and still be the lowest of the low?

Seriously?
Whatever happened to that man, you're talking about a human being. Someone who's been hunted down and already convicted for no reason. So please stop trying to find out what happened to him or even if he committed suicide. Enjoy what he has given us, and leave him alone. What happened to him is nobody's business but his own.
Let us at least, as members of this very special community, give this man a little respect and leave our morbid curiosity at the door.

And as a reminder, suicide is a serious matter and doesn't deserve to be talked about as a solution to anything.

Treat this man with a bit of dignity, dammit!

Yea....you are definitely not wrong, but he had a huge influence in this community so I think it's understandable that people want to know what happened.
But you are right it's probably better to stop talking about it.

Maybe the fact that the caseID was removed is actually a good sign, that he made a deal or that the case was thrown out or something like that.

If you are browsing the cases on the sites I listed, there is really fucked up shit involving real humans, and that is online for everyone to see (often with fake names).

I fully agree with you regarding suicide speculations, that is completely inappropriate.

But the case had (has?) a rather huge impact on the community, especially on other devs.
So I think from a legal perspective, the case is important and interesting and therefore worth talking about.

And I am sure that the vast majority here has a lot of love and respect for Westy and hopes only for the best for him.

Therefore I think it's not strange to want to hear an update on this matter, both for legal as well as personal interest reasons.

We can hope for some miraculous dropping of a slam-dunk case (I do)...but it's entirely reasonable to speculate.

But in the absence of any actual info, our speculation is nothing but mental masturbation. o_O

It seems very unlikely that we will ever know what happened. His case was only reported by local news so if even those aren't reporting anything now, we have no way to know.
I wish him the best, the whole situation is fucking ridiculous and shouldn't have happened.

Thanks Ketzal. For all non Australians..Deaths in prisons make the nightly news and he has not . As for the lack of details, It could simply be part of the deal he made when he pleaded guilty. If no one knows how long he got then no one will know his release date either

I would assume that, as in other so-called "open democracies", the proceedings of court cases are public. Which they seems to be in Australia.
Sometimes there is a delay, in some countries a rather long delay, but in Australia they seem pretty fast.
If you peruse the other cases on the sites I linked to, there are plenty controversial topics and cases so that is also not the reason why it's not listed.

The only thing I can think of is that Westy made a deal with the prosecution and that the case will never appear in court (despite the earlier news articles). Perhaps Westy keeping silent is part of the deal.
Or, indeed, a much more sad reason. Which I think is unlikely given that he did make a deal and knew what he agreed on. But we should really not speculate on this.

On the other hand, what happens to Westy sets a precedent for other community members making content. It's not unreasonable to want to know if there's a chance cops are going to start busting down peoples doors after letting this stuff slide under the radar for so long. It's one domino, are more going to follow?

I do wish him the best and hope maybe he was able to make a plea deal or something along those lines that let's him move on with his life.

Only if they live in Australia. They have especially draconian laws, especially when no real people are involved.

Maybe, maybe not. The advent of AI has caused a lot of countries to start introducing new legislation that may effect 3DCG and other smol content as well.
