Does it feel like there aren't very many "new" games that are good?

If we're talking big publishers then yeah. "New" games have been feeling not as great. I mean yeah there are games one can enjoy but it just feels like some games are missing the soul they used to have. COD being a good example.

I do feel with the restrictions which seem to be overwhelming, we are not getting the quality games that we are used to seeing
I agree with you here, I feel like that the restrictions that patreon and other monetization sites have placed have made creators more skittish and weary when making their games. They just seem like they're more afraid of breaking taboos these days.

Why bother being creative when you can just shit out the same generic plot and people will still throw some amount of money at you?

I think we get a lot of bad game
The 'bulk' of all releases will be ... and I'll be charitable here... average...

This doesn't apply to just porn games... It applies to EVERYTHING... Movies, Books, Games, Animes, YouTube Videos...
So... like... just kinda accept it and try to appreciate and support the good stuff
Very true

Might be just that I'm getting old or something but it seems like a few years ago, you'd check the various sites and almost every week there'd be a new game or an update to a game that was incredible. Like 2-3 games a week being updated that were just really good, really decent stories that had good renders and animations, tolerable writing, etc.

And some of those games are still out there and still being worked on, with updates periodically.
But for the last few months it feels like there's so many games that are following the fetishes/trends that I'm not really into, or that just don't spend any real time on animations/renders, or that just follow the same templates as all the other popular games.
I mean, I like Harem games for example but it seems like almost every Harem game is copying the most popular few harem games and I can't even tell you how many "Dad that's fucking his daughters, wife, sister, nieces, their friends, etc" games that follow almost exactly the same plot.

1. Get seduced by daughter #1.
2. Hide it from wife.
3. Sister comes back into life due to a divorce from her husband.
4. Fuck sister like you always used to.
5. Find out sister's daughter(s) are your kids, fuck them with sister's help.
6. Sister helps you fuck your daughter #2.
7. Wife finds out you're fucking niece, gets mad.
8. Easily talk wife out of her anger with the power of dick.
9. Fuck wife, daughters, sister, nieces, some of their friends.
10. Daughters ask you to impregnate them constantly.
11. Sister talks you into impregnating her daughters.
12. You're a very wealthy businessman who also fucks his assistant.

It's like...this could describe half a dozen games I like. But why?

It's like that "you're a college graduate and your dad just died so you moved home but now you have to fuck your mom and sister, or they lose the house to gangsters!" type of plot.

Why isn't anybody coming up with unique stories anymore? Why are all the games feeling the same?

Is it just me?

haha, those 12 points sound familiar for a lot of incest/harem games I have seen in the past, totally right...

The format has taken a beating in the last couple of years. Many of the established developers have moved on to other things due to the growing political climate and the stigma surrounding the legality of what is deemed "legal" with the interpretation of what certain defining tags are. The volatility of the fan base has driven many of the better developers out of the format as well. It is no secret that this format has some of the most rude, childish, obnoxious and uncaring fans in any "adult" industry. We have lost a couple major developers in the last couple years who made it known clearly that they were leaving the format because of the toxic fan base and nothing more. What does all of this breed? It breeds an environment where anyone that downloads a game engine and can read code, thinks they can write a masterpiece and make a quick buck only to find out that it is much harder than they first thought. The number of abandoned projects has more than tripled in the last year alone.
SO..... If anyone wants to point a finger and ask, "Where have all of the good games gone?" All you need to do is look in a mirror. I have my own list of the top 5 things that over the years I have kept quiet watch on because, well that's my background in the real world. Numbers and trends.

5. Language barriers, poor diction and terrible translation skills combined with nonsensical story structure and plot holes.
4. Poor writing stemming from a lack of any formal writing education (ie, Fred with a GED thinking he can write a Pulitzer winning story)
3. Tag controversies and the double standards of fans. (ie, The guy that loses his mind over NTR in a game but is perfectly ok with daddy screwing his "smol" daughter.)
2. Knee Jerk keyboard moral justice warriors with no clear understanding of laws and what is clearly legal from one country to another.
1. Toxic fans. Yes that's right folks. You wanna know why there aren't many good games in development right now? Thank your fellow fans.

Theres a decline in updates and new games in general over the past 6 months. It's been going down. During 2021 it was ramped up from everyone staying at home (which also lead to influx of abandoned games). There's very few more I even follow for updates.

What I have seen is that gamers don't give a shit about good games. They just want to coomsume. Those of us devs who are passionate and/or artistic get driven out, while the greedy and woke ones thrive.
I don't recommend any game dev new, current or upcoming to fight for gamers. They don't need to try for them. They show they are much more happier with the shit they coomsume. I have fought for many years already for gamers only for them to shit on me.

There is no hope for this industry to become become great again. Therefore, there is no need for creating great games. Gacha games do well for a reason.

Yeah i can see what you mean there aren't that many adult games with unique stories the most unique ones i can think of are depraved awakening and city of broken dreamers from philly games.

I have to agree and add that the good ones that are out there are plagued with delays which they cant be blamed for like health problems or some one dying. and the rest just get stopped when they are starting to get really good.

That was my first thought when I started reading this thread.

In the renpy games that is happening, but I still see a lot of nice games coming out of japan, sadly all censored and without translation, but still, from what i see there is around at least 2 potentially nice games coming out weekly and at least for me, i can't really play them all, but i do collect them in a list, so they end up accumulating, if anyone wants i can share a nice Itch.io library, just DM me

Feels like there's just not enough content in new games to make it worth playing them... Usually they get released so early in development so the dev can start making money

there is definitely an increase in AI usage with new games. This isn't necessarily a problem when used well, and I'm sure AI images will improve over time. Some do look dreadful though

Obviously. Good games need a lesbian protagonist, a compelling story or both.
Everything else is at best medicore but mostly just garbage.
