Why refuse to play games not made with Renpy?

Personally I am still puzzled why they did not call it CreamPy - but OK.

For me - I know what to except from Ren'Py and I've grown to like its simplicity. The ability to easily mod it is also a bonus for sure.
3D game engines - didn't play many admittedly, but I often found the optimization to be really bad. And their development takes far longer usually

For me, i prefer Ren'py but don't refuse to play others. I like the menus, the moddability, the ability to rollback and the ease with which you can drop saves at key points to allow you to revisit.

I stick to Ren'Py most of the time because it's super familiar and player-friendly. I can save whenever, rollback if a choice goes sideways (especially on replays when I'm hunting gallery unlocks and don't remember every dialogue branch), and text-skip makes grinding through known content painless. Nothing kills my vibe faster than a Ren'Py game that suddenly locks rollback after a big choice with zero warning—just "lol no backsies."

That said, I do play non-Ren'Py stuff if it's worth it. Femboy Futa House is a great example—I love the characters, Lucy doesn't make you jump through endless hoops for action, and it's fun overall. But replaying is a hassle without easy rollback/skip, so it mostly holds me over until something like Haunted by Femboy drops (demo's solid, full release can't come soon enough).

Unity/Unreal games do eat more resources, but the bigger downside for me is they're often built with WASD/mouse-look or interactive controls that make one-handed play a pain—defeating the whole point sometimes. Ren'Py nails it: pure keyboard/mouse basics, no fumbling required, which is way better for... relaxed sessions. Modding is also king in Ren'Py—slapping in an incest patch or quick name/relation tweak is just dropping an edited .rpy file. I enjoy some straight-up incest-themed stories, but tons of games water it down with "step-" or "roommate" labels that don't hit the same—Ren'Py lets the community fix that in minutes, while non-Ren'Py mods are usually way more involved (if they exist at all).

RPGMaker gets slept on IMO. Claire's Quest and Melty's Quest are favorites of mine, and there are plenty more solid ones out there. The downside is they usually require way more grinding/exploration before the lewd scenes kick in, so I tend to skip them unless the premise hooks me hard.

Curious what others think—any non-Ren'Py gems that changed your mind?

Many people just want low-effort fapping - other engines usually translate to what are more high-effort traditional games. With that said, deep/heavy stories (i.e. VNs) are easier to express through Ren'Py.

Well for Android Unreal and Unity are not an option unless the dev releases an Android version

Not everyone likes RPGM you can count on one hand the ones that are considered good

Wolf RPG doesn't work on Joiplay

HTML ain't for everyone

Tyrano games can be good and they work on Joiplay

Not many godot games

Who plays (WebGL Tads RAGS QSP Java Flash and ADRIFT) anyways

So from the perspective of a Android user Joiplay is overall the best option

Angel and the Neet is tyrano one of the best non Ren'Py games

Since I'm playing primarily on Android, renpy is the most accessible/easiest to port.

If I'm playing on PC, I want something with proper gameplay, not a VN

Not allowing rollback is a Bastard Dev move.

Certain game's grinding mode is so tedious that RenPy remake kinda remove them or make it easier to manage. I think that's the one reason I prefer certain game using RenPy over RPGM. However, certain RPG game and stuffs still work amazing in RPGM!

I take what I can but if people are using common engines then I know what to expect particularly when i try to mod/cheat them.

I have to agree with most of the others. Ren'py are simple to play. RPGM usually start being boring just having to walk everywhere and find the right stuff to interact with. Unity, etc can be fine, but only if properly developed. Renpy though really falls into the whole visual novel feel.

The ease of backtracking is great. The right click save function is awesome. and the H hide command S screenshot command within Renpy are probably the best features !!

cheating is realy easy in renpy with save editor or URM,
and in some game you just have to cheat as some devs wants alot of "time played" for steam i guess, or they just like to torture players so they make game super grindy, like you need 800 gold but you only make 20/days etc

so yeah i normaly stick to renpy or html games

I was today years old when I learned that is even a thing. Like, personally I don't care whether it is or not.

I'm with you on that, if the story's good, I don't really care what engine it runs on. I think some folks just prefer Ren'Py because it's what they're used to and it's easy to mod or screenshot, but it's definitely not a dealbreaker for me either.
