I mean. Majority of AVNs not only best friend characters but also LIs are cardboard cut outs. Like no personality at all and already into the MC w/out build up.

Why cant devs do best friends right.

theres no push from customers to put the effort into best friends when it can be put into lis

I don't think it's limited to best friends. I think its true for all the characters.
But first, the best friend. Most have said it here already:
-The best friend is a villain because "you need a villain" (I disagree but here we are)
-The best friend is comic relief (there's few things as bad as bad comedy)
-The best friend is there to prop up the hero by being FUCKING STUPID. (actually, just stupider than the hero)
I think the other characters are just as bad. Take the 3 Sisters / Daughters trope.
-1 is a bitch from Hell.
-1 is in love with the MC from Day 1.
-1 is in the middle, usually brainy, sporty or some other 1-dimensional characteristic.
In games, many Devs don't take the time to flesh out the characters. It's either "Here comes the porn" or "Watch my epic story." followed by "Oh yeah... there are characters in here... right..."
If you find Devs that do good characters AND good porn... follow them... support them... praise them... They are rarer than they should be.

I mean, it's pretty obvious that a lot of the devs are friendless shut-ins that have also never spoken to or touched a woman in their lives.
Dialog is stilted, women are both whores and infantile retards that don't know about the simplest shit in life. Your character is probably plowing your friends wife while he's on screen watching a tv five feet away and somehow doesn't hear her yelling about how huge your dick is and how she always really just loved you but didn't know how to say it.
When you read a VN, you're reading the deranged fantasies of the kind of person that wants to sit around writing them.
Sometimes, that's a nice little love story. Sometimes, it's a tale of degeneracy, violence and terror.
Most of the time it's someone writing about how they think that shit might work with no experience with normal humans at all.
How the fuck have I seen more than one with the dev thinking a woman in her mid twenties with a rack bigger than god would be flustered because someone said she's pretty since 'no one had ever done that before'.
Seriously? No one said the titty monster with an ass tighter than a tig weld was pretty before?
How many women "hihihi" their way through life in these things? I like a woman to breast boobily to the stairs and tit down them as much as anyone, but come the fuck on guys. Go bang some broads already.
Add in a healthy dose of ESL accidental pronoun gender bending, some untranslatable foreign expressions, and damn.

It's honestly surprising how much they do get right.
