If the game is good, does it really matter? I prefer the dev actually making a good game, regardless of the engine they use.

Honestly, the engine matters lesser than the game. But RenPy has allowed so many good games to be made

renpy with html being second

an rpgm game has to be REALY good for me to stick with it. i get bored of them and just quit

For me it’s RenPy and Unity

RenPy - Preferred
VaM - Dont know about that. So no.
Unity - Depend on the content
RPGM - No. Cant grind.

Depends, are you reffereing to playing or creating games.
In case of playing, I'd say, I prefer ren'py because I favor VNs, and ren'py is perfect for this applcation. The backtracking and save compatibilty is another big plus for ren'py.
But other engines like RPG Maker, Unity and Godot are also good if the type of game is not a VN. RPG Maker is good for, well, RPGs and godot and unity for other types of genres.
Unreal Engine is too resource consuming and overkill. If the game is not a AAA game, and for porn games that nearly never the case, I'd stay away from it.

From the game creating point of view, it highy depend on the games you want to make, but the genre and the audiance are a good indicator for what engine to use.
Renpy - VN, no grinding/skilling, few/simple choices
Unreal - 3D game (first/third person with lots of physics and/or realism), audiance are people with beefy computer
RPG Maker - RPG/JRPG (with little to none out of the box gameplay), people who also enjoy the gameplay (especially leveling/battle/grinding)
Unity - 2D games/ simple 3D games, gameplay is usually the focus, eroticism is more a feature or a reward than anything, reaches more platforms than RPG Maker
Godot - Same as unity, though with less platform support (yet), but completely royalty free

The engine doesn t really matter. The quality matters. However Renpy is my fav mostly for skip option :p

honestly agree with you on this alot as i dont care about the engine as long as the gameplay is good although i have to say im not much into vn but i do like having a skip option to skip cutescenes and such for when you are replaying the game

Old thread topic :)

My answer is still and probably will always be Ren'Py

as a consumer i don't even know the difference

i think all porn game engine are pretty bad and they make the games feel too similar but renpy is probably the least shit out of most of them

It depends on the type of game.

I would say RenPy is the easiest to bootstrap, since you only need to focus on narrative and illustrations, and in some cases one can carry the other.
If the dev feels confident they can spice up the gameplay adding some mechanics.

And in these forums, I feel like the majority of new content and remakes are being made using RenPy.

Feel you on that. Renpy + Daz. Wonder what the next engines and models will be? Would like to see some advancement in that space, Hope it doesnt get taken over with AI assets tho

Most of the games I played that were made in unity were good
