Which game engine do you hate?

If you're just making a VN there's no reason not to pick Ren'Py, it's more flexable and compatible than pretty much all the other options. My pet peeve is when a game moves to a custom engine but implements bare bones visual novel features... talk about wasted effort. Always glad when someone picks up one of those hunks of junk and ports it back to Ren'Py and nothing of value is lost.

Completely agree here. It's fine to make your own thing if you need the customization but most of the time it's not necessary and you'll improve your time for making new stuff by using what is good enough.

Unreal AND Unity crash way too often. Generally should be Ren'py or GTFO.

RPG maker usually comes with mechanics that are boring, not always but enough that I dont pay attention to games made in it often

I am curious to see what people think about the choice of a game developer for an engine. Is there an engine, that when you see it's used, no matter how good the art looks, you are reluctant or outright ignore the game because of it?
For me, its RPGM. I have played some good games made in this engine, but most of the times, it's a buggy mess, clunky or just feels that the "rpg mechanics" offer nothing but an annoyance. So, most of the time, I just ignore games made in RPGM
i'm not much of a fan of unreal, although there are few games using it that i liked

Rpg makers is usually makes me crazy with no mouse controls :S

If you think [insert engine here] is bad, treat yourself to RAGS or QSP. Hands down the worst ones out there. If you can even get it to run in the first place.

There is always some issues when the dev is trying to make the game on any other engine except Ren'py, either you can't roll back or you can't skip unseen text or the buttons are all messed up and I have to click E instead of the usual space-bar which is really annoying. I don't even know the reason why some dev's are making VN on other engines except ren'py where almost everything is ready, I get the reason some use RPGM, but when it comes to unity there is almost no point of using that engine 99% of the time if it's a VN.

If we talk about Unreal, most of the time the games are trying to be something that are simply not achievable with the budget of "porn game", for example the dev's of Wild Life and Carnal instinct are having plans of making multi million budget games, but at the end everybody understands that it's impossible to finish this kind of games, they are simply too big. And this type of games usually become something like a scene makers at the end with a lot of wasted budget and time on useless mechanics, because I'm 99% sure nobody will care or bother about "fighting" and "story" of this games. They could've been something better if they just focused on one thing only... And I'm sure that they push back 90% of their audience by the fact that these type of games also very heavily rely on the hardware of the PC, so again 90% of the consumers won't be able to play these games

I only really play renpy games, so I don't know any engines that I'd hate. Maybe unity, because those can't be ported to android. Not 100% sure about that so don't take my word for it.

Yeah so anything that can't be ported to android, I'd dislike.

RPGMaker is very outdated and it's in general a bad match for adult games. It's like the empty sandbox concept boosted to 11.

RPGM, But there’s an exception for some games where I like the art and gameplay

Unity when it is made in the style of a Ren'Py game. It is so incredibly scuffed to use.

I don't like the non ren'py engines, but even ren'py is pretty janky. It only gets used because the others are worse

I like to use cheat engine sometimes if the grind in unberable and in unity I have a lot of problems with using it so yes, unity sucks. Rpg maker is pretty bad too, But some games in RPGM are golden, like Struggle with Sin.

RPGM is bad, I only really like Claire's Quest and Coming of Age, but those don't have any combat in them.

pretty much anything that isnt renpy. the ability to go back is the thing i like most

unreal or unity for visual novels

I guess I popped my Cherry so to speak on Ren'py games and that's what I usually tend to lean towards. RPGM games just don't have the same flair for me.
