What would a dev have to do in a new update to make you stop playing a really good game?

How do you feel about an uncensored patch hidden behind a paywall tho ?
Same. Censored isn't even slightly worth playing ever.

I care for a good story when im playing an avn a lot of the times. That being said if they killed of one of my favorite characters in the game to make the sotry even 10 times better I would still stop playing.

It feels kinda scummy to put uncensoring under a paywall , if it was DLC or any extra content different from the main game then yeah i get that

I'll normally play a game because there's one specific character model I like. If they dramatically change that model i'll probably stop. especially if they go back and change other images of them retroactively.

Changing from somewhat realistic looking to cartoony.

Removing or changing characters, censorship, and when a game is no longer updated and thus becomes unfinished.

1. Add new content that wasnt previously in this game and there were no prerequisites for this (such as adding gay/trans/furry content)
2. The quality of game decreasing constantly (I can accept 1-2 updates because of mental/health issues, or because of deadlines for updates)
3. Game become just abandoned

yeah it sucks when its halfway through and they characters all change
Unfortunately, some of that was due to devs legitimately fearing prosecution, due to living in repressive countries.

It's really annoying when saves stop working after an update, so you have to start all over again.

So technically that is not a devs fault but usually a fault by Ren'Py. Sometimes when they upgrade their version it breaks old saves and devs are forced to upgrade to that version to continue having support.
Like for instance the latest Ren'Py version a lot of devs upgraded to dropped x32 support so a lot of bigger games had to force new saves.
So devs literally get caught between running an old unsupported version of Ren'Py or upgrade and piss people off.
A lot of times it's because they decided to add a variable, and since it didn't exist before there's no value so it crashes. Some devs are so bad at getting their shit straight it happens a lot.

1. Add NTR with no previous indication of it being added
2. Start a 'remake/rework' in the middle of the story
3. Completely change the characters/personalities for no reason.

1. Irreversible censorship.
2. Questionable plot direction
3. Addition of repulsive fetishes.

One of my favorite games was Lust and Power - it had an interesting world, actual game mechanics rather than just sandbox/VN type stuff, and had great corruption/domination themes. Then at some point the dev said "actually, I'm gonna rebuild the whole game from scratch" and rolled the whole game back to virtually no content, 3 years later it's not where it originally was.

Haven't touched in in years, still annoyed about it.

probably start using AI art. Changes to artist can also be rough but as long as the new art is decent it's ok

1. Remove the incest change it from family to tenants
2. Change the ages and looks of the character if the time line of the story doesn't qualify it.
3. Add unavoidable Futa.
4. Sissfication.
Just to name a few

Unfortunately seems all too common. Devs get burnt out and instead of starting a side project they scrap all the good content and good reputation to rebuild what they already have. It is particularly annoying when they do it for graphics changes. Spending years updating everything with no new content just for it to be outdated again is so annoying.
