I usually play a game and delete it, and long times between updates makes me forget either playing the game or where I am. Some games I do the save at the developer's end point, other times I just use the last autosave to continue.

I would really like to see renpy develop to the point where it is easy to add new content to the initial download. Downloading 5-10GB or more for a 2 week update, and then redownloading again 2 weeks later is just annoying. Something like a CH1.rpa, CH2.rpa, etc that can just be lumped together to update the game.

Because few developers use the update process, and the fact that I delete the games when finished anyway, the longer time between updates with a lot of added content is better for me, but still sucks to try to download large files for every update.

I would prefer it to be constant, at least 1 update per month, unfortunately it seems that many developers tend to go for "slow update, less content!"

If you're gonna drop monthly, just put some "idle" content in like a date here and there or a side quest or two. Something that isn't going to make the dev pull their hair out. Past 3 months, you really need at least a good chunk of story continuation if you aren't going to go all out with animations and such. 6 months or more I'm looking for a good amount of progress.

Honestly, I wish developers enjoyed what they're doing more anyway. If I pay, I hope it's a small incentive for them, otherwise I'll wait. Quality over quantity.

That's my thing, with a lot of the well known games it seems like the devs are getting to a point of phoning it in. Others seem to be up and changing direction from one update to the next. If it's starting to become a huge chore and you have a main job, hand the reigns over or bow out gracefully. For some games you almost need to find a way to pay them because they keep getting banned from Patreon and such.

One thing I can't abide by though is keeping donations coming in and the game hasn't been updated in a year or more.

I want devs to go in to a project planning for it to have a set, finite number of updates.

I usually wait until a game is completed, so a normal update schedule is fine.

If I play a game thats not finished I usually wait half a year before trying it out again. Tbh games that update every other week and it just ends up being around 100-150 renders is always underwhelming.

Depends on the type of game, if its a story focused game then I'd prefer slow updates with more content.

i dont really care. As long as the updates dont feel like im wasting my time. For example i lost my interest in guilty pleasure due to the small updates

Fast is the easy answer, but theres a ballance with speed and quality or quantity.
Id prefer to wait longer for better or more content, I hate the updates that take like 5 min to finish.

Any of them seems reasonable to me, the only kind that bothers me is the one that give a lot of excuses to delay the update just to farm some more money from patreons and subscribers

I voted for "more content" but in reality it depends on the game itself and whether or not I have other games to keep myself occupied until the update arrives. Considering all of the lewd games I'm waiting for are in development at the moment, it looks like I'll have to extract ETS2 and CarX from the archives again.

Normal to slow is best for me. I like a ton of new stuff all at once.

The following is the natural progression of most games:

1. Great content timely release
2. Less content kinda timely
3. Lesser or random content after a long wait.
4. Abandoned

Bonus
5. Reloaded
6. Abandoned

🤨😐😔😒

In my experience, update times are closer to:
  • Fast update → 1–2 months
  • Normal update → 4 months
  • Slow update → 6–8 months
I prefer normal and consistent updates, which have sufficient content with not too long of a wait time. However, frequently normal updates turn to slow updates, due to reasons, without the content increasing appropriately.

Definitly Slow Update - More Content.
In the meanwhile there is enough time to check out other games or do other stuff and the feeling of a fresh new start with alot of new content after a while is always a pleasure.
