In terms of japanese visual novels especially for story-driven ones, the ones I liked are clockwork leyline - mystery/magic school setting, hoshizora no memoria - mystery/drama, and kinkoi golden time - mystery/drama.

Mist is a fantastic game, treasures of Nadia is great. Lately I’ve been really enjoying escaping viper and piper
