If you're assuming one person is working on the whole thing, this is everything that needs to be done:

- Writing (outline and script)
- Base Imaging (DAZ, HS2, KK, etc.)
- Post processing (PhotoShop, Paint.NET, etc.)
- Animation (various programs)
- Coding/Assembly (using Unreal/Ren'py/RPGM/etc.)
- Distribution (sending it out to sites like LC)
- Social Media & Advertisement (Discord, Reddit, Twitter, etc.)

The sheer amount of stuff that has to be Top A+ Level to get to a SSP or other similar game is enormous. Then, add in all the competition and the fact certain genres have a low amount of devs due to laws and such...

Very, very few devs can reach that level in every category. The best thing you can do is lower expectations slightly. Don't mean play stuff that doesn't look good at all, but to just give it a try. Even though I'm not a fan of NTR and I'm not into DAZ characters, I thoroughly enjoyed F Kingdom.

considering that MGQ was successful enough to launch it's successor MGQ paradox despite the art in that game being wildly inconsistent i agree story tends to be more important.

I enjoy the writing with branching choices. I think that's were SSP shines for me.

Meh, I don't get the love TBH. The story (at least when I played it) went between tedious and incomprehensible, like english was the authors 3rd or 4th language. The renders were decent but nothing special.

Nice graphics gets the initial downloads, but if the translation is bad or its just poorly written in general then people aren't going to be coming back for the updates. Thats how it is for me at least.

I think it's important to understand how difficult and/or time consuming getting those types of renders are. I've finally gotten to a point in DAZ knowledge where I can get some outdoor renders looking really nice, but I have some serious hardware and rendering times are still long. Indoor rendering is definitely harder, and don't get me started on animations...

I disagree with pretty much everything you just said. I'm in the writing > Art camp too, the same as the person you replied to and a few others here. I've played many games of varying art styles. Including anime/hentai and even oldschool pixelart. Realism has its place, but so do all the other art styles. I really wish people would stop being so narrow-minded and projecting what they like as the community fact. Some of us are here for the writing. Some of us don't mind NTR and are secure enough in our sexuality that things like this don't phase us. Some of us like the darker path content and some of us just want to mingle in the forum more than playing a game. We're not all here to get take a few minutes to get off to pixles. If that were the case, myself and many others would just go watch porn. It'd be much faster and easier.

Sure you can, there's plenty of literotica out there. I'm not saying the art serves no purpose at all here. If we wanted literotica, again, we'd just go find it. What I'm saying is the visual art helps immerse the player in the world of the game and give a bit more detail, but the art style doesn't matter to some of us in the end. As long as the art is good enough that it's not annoying to look at, like poor renders without anti-aliasing or the models look off in some way that interrupts the narrative (even then some will be okay with it). Then the writing is more important to those like myself because it pushes the narrative forward and is the core of the game. If all you want is nude 3D models or even anime/hentai, there's plenty of sites for those too that would be faster and easier for getting off, not just literotica or traditional porn. Many of us are here because we enjoy the games for what they bring to the table. Story, interaction, player choices, immersiveness. Story and art combine to create this atmosphere. Which is why though largely misunderstood by some, many of us continue to come here and to places like here. Games like these are a niche hobby for many of us, and we're here talking about them and playing them because of how misunderstood and misrepresented the community actually is. Mention one of the games in the games section to anyone IRL, and youll be met with mostly wierd looks and called a pervert. Simply because people don't see past the nudity or porn aspect of it. The reasons we play these games, at least for some of us, is much deeper than that.
