Unlocking as you go through the story. Never checked the gallery before hand and i like the idea of replaying the title for different routes.

Earn as you play with hints or maybe an optional unlock after the first playthrough

Earn the gallery for sure, unless revisiting a game you played a while ago and just want to see the gallery right off the bat

For me, it depends on the game.

If the game is for fapping first and anything else last, let's call it a porn gallerie with a game attached, I believe the best is to have the option to liberate everything, that way, since we come to this kind of game to relieve ourselves, nothing is really lost.

On the other end, if you have a fun game or a good story with porn as rewards for playing, I also believe the best is to have the option to liberate everything, in this case it could be a little hidden. We go to this game to have fun, if we can see nice images/videos even better. It can ruin the story a bit, but that is the players fault.

Finally, if the game is a torture device to punish the perverts out there with endeless suffering for meager amount of porn, than no. Fuck those perverts. They should work hard for it!!!

It's very useful to have this option, because sometimes even after several playthroughs, you don't understand how to unlock all the scenes. And the ability to open the gallery will help you calmly complete the game with a sense of accomplishment.

I like when the scenes are blacked out and revealed when you earn them that way i can see how many scenes are in the game

I do it after i've completed the game to see if i missed something. :3

want it all available to you right off the bat
If the game is long and boring, I'll jump straight into it without playing. If it's fun, I'll ignore it. Let's be realistic, I don't care about achievements in gooning; this isn't Dark Souls.

only if the games its getting boring i unlock just to see and im not going to play the game more. Also when i completed the game i unlock the gallery to see the scenes what i dont unlocked

I prefer to unlock everything by playing. Using a gallery unlock is equivalent of skipping parts of the movie so you can see what comes next. It just doesn't bode well and you kind of spoil the buildup to certain scenes.

HOWEVER.
I do like using gallery unlockers if I'm unsure about game tags. For example game being tagged with pregnancy. You imagine it would be you impregnating one of the main characters? You play the game, then proceed to actually see that you're just fucking some pregnant side hoe.

I prefer to earn the gallery,
But if there are several paths:
I'd like to replay scenes, which are not part of my path without replaying the game

In some games, the scenes are good but the gameplay and writing are terrible, so you'll have to unlock it. But if the gameplay and story are worth it, you have to work hard for a good reward.

I like having it locked and having to earn it, but also having a button to unlock everything if you want to

An unlocked gallery ruins the whole fun of the game.

Earning the gallery is an act of respect for the dev

Getting the gallery from the start is sign of trust from the dev

I think if it unlocks after completing the story once is fine so you don't have to play thru a bunch and waste time.

I actually like unlocking the gallery naturally while I play. It gives a nice sense of progression, especially in longer games.

One of my favorite feelings is finishing a route or even the whole game and then realizing "wait... there are still several scenes/paths I haven’t discovered yet." It makes the world feel bigger and gives me a reason to come back later instead of consuming everything in one sitting and immediately forgetting it existed.

That said, I still appreciate games that respect the player’s time. If unlocking the remaining scenes requires solving ancient cryptic VN rituals or replaying 20 hours for one missing CG, my patience starts evaporating fast.
