I don't mind them, I like to personify my characters and I'm not exactly the most fit person, so it's somewhat easy to get into the skin of a "fat bastard". Also, I'm kinda tired of games where you play a young 18 years old immature boy.

I have read a significant amount of historical and near historical documents about japanese culture from an extensive period of time. They have a complete different view of relationships and fetishes than western and european cultures.
Japan obsess with the corruption and abuse of innocent girls, that is the pattern anyone can see in their adult videos and most of their games. Also one of the reasons they love female protagonists getting on with a bunch of random men.
The last book I've read about japan was Shogun by POW Clavell. Almost every literature have the same pattern of how loose they treat chastity of their women, even the married ones. As if it was some kind of honor to let superior ranked men sex their wives, divorce one, remarry with other and so on.
Going out on a whim I conclude that japanese and maybe asians overall have a cultural fetish for netorare, proven by how popular that element is in their porn, and also by the simple name of the thing itself being japanese. So for them, a different, older and wiser man having a go with their innocent wives maybe have a different undertone.
Still weird as fuck tho.

Call me a romantic but I usually prefer when LIs actually like the character I'm playing as. These games are a fantasy, why would I fantasize about being ugly and a bastard?

It would depend on the amount of ugliness and the setting. If the character is actually uncomfortably disgustingly ugly, get that shit away from me. For "play as a girl, get raped" kinds of games, I don't really mind them looking a bit ugly (as opposed to smug stereotypical "hot" soulless bastards).

I can see reasons to use ugly characters in games, but I really don't want to see any in a porn game I'm playing.
