It's a question I have in my mind, with so many things happening in the industry (especially AAA) Western games seem to have lost their shine.
In short games western game companies went woke, they tried to appeal to small and almost non-existent audiences and they've been paying the price. While other developers (Mostly Asian) know who their audiences are and what they want and that's what they give them. Obviously the situation is more complicated but that's the gist. It's a question I have in my mind, with so many things happening in the industry (especially AAA) Western games seem to have lost their shine.
In my opinion, it doesn't make much sense to complain about delights and tentacles in oriental games because you'll only find them if you look for them, there are many games that I found very interesting but haven't been able to play yet, like Dragon Quest 11, which isn't available in my native language, and they don't need to be ultra-realistic, just fun. It's a matter of personal preference. For example, I don't accept Asian games because of the graphics, which seem ugly to me. HS and HS2 also fall into this category - rubber faces, limited facial expressions.
The plots are also perplexing with all the tentacles and other “delights”.
So I play exclusively Western projects (including those whose developers are Russian or Ukrainian - they work in a Western manner). There at least you can see something that resembles living people.

The woke thing is a very good point, Soulash 2's dev was shunned on steam when he refused to modify his game to include same-sex relationships due to the limited interactions the characters in the game have (it's a roguelike that has family lineages and whatnot) .. So many devs try to include everything to avoid such backlashIn short games western game companies went woke, they tried to appeal to small and almost non-existent audiences and they've been paying the price. If we are talking only adult games. Then I would say western is better. The Japanese have potential, but most of it is lost due to censorship, and lazy, overly used cliches. The Japanese devs and gaming companies tend to be timid and prone to pressure, which we have seen with their non adult games over and over again.
Western games do have a problem with wokeness and greed. With censorship that occurs for western games, at least we don't get mosiacs like the japanese. That's a massive cuck level of censorship that the Japanese seem to be fine with, as there is no change in that anytime soon and will likely stick around for many more years to come for them. I would never pay for a japanese game that is censored and I would recommend others do the same, why, so we don't enable that shit.
If any of you have been watching the political involvment of games and censorship, you'll see that japanese devs have become more greedy, censorship tolerant, and even woke.
Do people still think Japanese game devs are based?
