It's a question I have in my mind, with so many things happening in the industry (especially AAA) Western games seem to have lost their shine.

In short games western game companies went woke, they tried to appeal to small and almost non-existent audiences and they've been paying the price. While other developers (Mostly Asian) know who their audiences are and what they want and that's what they give them. Obviously the situation is more complicated but that's the gist.

It's a matter of personal preference. For example, I don't accept Asian games because of the graphics, which seem ugly to me. HS and HS2 also fall into this category - rubber faces, limited facial expressions.
The plots are also perplexing with all the tentacles and other “delights”.
So I play exclusively Western projects (including those whose developers are Russian or Ukrainian - they work in a Western manner). There at least you can see something that resembles living people.

I mainly like survival games and sandbox RPG's. So it's western style for me. Conversely I do like some Japanese games like Dark Cloud, Sudeki and all Fromsoft games.

Edit: After I posted I questioned whether an XBOX exclusive game was Japanese so I looked it up. Sudeki was indeed British. Hmm.

I'm fine with either genre. It all depends whether the gameplay and it's story are interesting or not. This applies to lewd games as well.

Also depends on what's your preferred genre.

I think eastern games have a lot of asset flips, but the gameplay is usually better. Story is a dice roll. Western games have more time, care, and appreciation, but usually miss the mark on gameplay, anc characters. Ofc there are outliers, but I mean its almost always like this.

Western adult games are millions of times better - not cartoony, no censorship, no Engrish, etc.

Japanese AAA titles are better for me, dark souls and resident evil series are my all time favorites. But for H games I prefer western most of the time

I feel like western games kinda gave up on gameplay to uniform to a more safe formula, there are still good games from western companies, especially in shooters and multiplayer eastern games can't really compete

In my opinion, it doesn't make much sense to complain about delights and tentacles in oriental games because you'll only find them if you look for them, there are many games that I found very interesting but haven't been able to play yet, like Dragon Quest 11, which isn't available in my native language, and they don't need to be ultra-realistic, just fun.

AAA games suck in general, shareholders wouldn't know what art is if it hits them in the face and yet AAA devs bend over backwards for their orders like a bitch. That said, RPGs at least generally come out alright from both sides of the globe

Same here...I don't like the graphics on Asian games as well

The titles with presentation that I enjoyed most are usually western games, while mechanically it tends to be eastern games. Off the top of my head I'm thinking Monster Hunter and the Disgaea series, both have a depth in their own way that is rarely matched by western games.

I don't think it's the woke part that is the problem honestly, it's more that they are using woke (Or whatever the current trend is.) to sell boring and broken trash games.

The issue in general with the AAA gaming industry, just like basically everything else now.. Is that they are becoming more and more greedy. This means they will be lazy in development, reusing assets and paying a fuck ton of money for advertisement.

Lets use Ubisoft as an example, they do use a lot of woke stuff in their games, but is it that or is it the fact that their games have become boring, ugly, repetitive, buggy and performing terribly that makes people dislike them? They've been doing their lazy open world shit for so many years now.

I barely play eastern (Asian) games but I do know that they are much better on average because they seem to focus on the games as more of an art than mass produced crap. Hell, even eastern European games tend to be more fun gameplay wise but they usually have their own issues such as worse sound.

I think the East has a much larger output of games too though, which we should keep in mind.

Also, I'm comparing open world RPGs. The Witcher vs Yakuza series? Skyrim vs. ??

The woke thing is a very good point, Soulash 2's dev was shunned on steam when he refused to modify his game to include same-sex relationships due to the limited interactions the characters in the game have (it's a roguelike that has family lineages and whatnot) .. So many devs try to include everything to avoid such backlash

As for woke. This content is by no means dominant in western games, and if it appears somewhere, I delete that game without the slightest regret. Summertime Saga as an example. Porn and politics don't mix well together. But there have been very few instances of it.
Again, the graphics of Asian games offend my (exactly my, and no one else's) aesthetic feelings. I'm closer to Goya, not Hokusai. And the plots in Asian games look 90% pure nonsense to me.

Western games are about politics now while eastern games are still about having fun, that's why all best titles from the past couple of years are from Asia. We on the west can make awesome games, we just don't want to for some reason. Maybe after Ubisoft will announce bankruptcy after AC Shadows something will change, but some people think they want to be bought even before the release.

If we are talking only adult games. Then I would say western is better. The Japanese have potential, but most of it is lost due to censorship, and lazy, overly used cliches. The Japanese devs and gaming companies tend to be timid and prone to pressure, which we have seen with their non adult games over and over again.

Western games do have a problem with wokeness and greed. With censorship that occurs for western games, at least we don't get mosiacs like the japanese. That's a massive cuck level of censorship that the Japanese seem to be fine with, as there is no change in that anytime soon and will likely stick around for many more years to come for them. I would never pay for a japanese game that is censored and I would recommend others do the same, why, so we don't enable that shit.

If any of you have been watching the political involvment of games and censorship, you'll see that japanese devs have become more greedy, censorship tolerant, and even woke.
Do people still think Japanese game devs are based?

Again. I do believe the Japanese output (of adult games) is much larger than what the West can put out. I agree that Western games have "more gems per output", but taking the Japanese output numbers in consideration... it's difficult to beat man.
