Of those two, i like the original trilogy of Star Wars and old Star Trek with Picard.

I enjoy both for what they are but recent shows have ruined my enthusiasm for both IP's.

Star Trek is the better universe.
Both are dead franchises though. All modern ST and SW is terrible.

The original star wars trilogy is the best scifi movies in my opinion.

I'm a Star Wars fan, the only Star Trek media I've seen is the new movies.

Star Wars I-VI with some selected elements of the extended universe (Rogue One, Andor). Some great video games as well. It's embraced camp (they say 'space opera'?) in such a way that the franchise can alternate between over the top scifi and drama/tragedy with great suspension of disbelief.

I don't know Star Trek that well. Missed the boat. How would that element compare? The newer movies have some drama to them and feel a little serious, perhaps?
If I were to start, which series best stands the test of time and shares that element I described?

I prefer Star Wars, but I also really like Star Trek: The Next Generation. I watched these for "Epic sci-fi space stuff", in the end of the day, neither of them makes too much sense. You really expect me to believe the captain of a ship along with several other high-ranking officers are the first to be dispatched? Or that the Holodeck can apparently make things that are phisically tangible outside of it's controlled space somehow, yet no one ever questions or utilizes that? lol. Star Wars might have it's fair share of nonsense, but it embraces it. Space monks with swords of radiant colored light and psychic powers that originate from a bacteria colony that lives in symbiosis with them? A station/ship the size of a moon that destroys planets with a gigantic laser beam? An evil wizard that manipulates eveyrone behind the scenes using the dark art of politicks and rejuvenates himself with his foul magicks? Hell yeah.

Most of the aliens in Star trek are just humans with some thing extra in their head, I find that pretty boring, but there are some cool ones too, like Changelings, the Borg, the Q. Star Wars aliens are mainly humanoid, but they're usual pretty different, it also features many robots, which Star Trek lacks, I can really only recall Data (who I really love as a character)

Soy fan de Star Wars, pero creo que las películas originales de ambas franquicias son las mejores.

¿Qué franquicia prefieres?
Actually neither of the two 😆 but if I had to choose a Star Wars series, it would be because of the games

Trek TV canon > Starwars 4,5,6 > Trek kelvinverse>Mandolarian and spinoffs>Starwars 1,2,3 > Other star wars tv shows> Star wars 7,8,9> SW christmas spe- nevermind we don't talk about that. got a few displates from both franchises on my walls, so not a hater of either ^^

I like both ngl but star wars cause of their expanded lore but I might be biased since I'm not well versed with star trek outside movies

Well obviously Star Trek, duh 😁
Star Wars is nice and all, fun to watch. But most of the (older) Star Trek series were a verry unique experience in terms of what pop culture media had to offer. And what made it this unique was the fact that they were highly educating. Not in a hard-scientific-facts kinda way, but in a way that helps you to have a better understanding of emotions, philosophy, society and so on.

Never have I ever encountered anything in pop culture that came even remotely close to how well Star Trek (especially TNG) did in this regard. And thats a shame imo. because I am certain, more media like that would ultimately lead to better society in reality.
So, if anyone has suggestions of Movies/Series that could possibly scratch that itch, i would be glad to hear them 😁

Going rogue and Throwing Babylon 5 into the mix!

besides that Trek Next Gen is greatest of the Treks

Wars is more up for debate as Prequel era is better polished (most likely due to release dates) but original trilogy had best casting and story... and lets avoid anything to do with anything 2011+ and write it off as non-cannon for everyone's sanity.

lmao I've only watched Star Trek so I can't give a fair opinion.... but my unfair opinion is that Star Trek is better

although I do have a few hot takes about it, like my favorite series being Enterprise and Lower Decks (which is the most star-trek-y series from these new releases)

it looks interesting, but for me the fact that Disney owns it (like every other thing on cinemas nowadays) kills it for me... maybe I'll kick the bucket and try the original trilogy someday? but I'll probably treat it as if anything post-disney never happened

you can do the 3 prequels as well as the original trilogy without worries that is all pre Disney I think and to better sell it those 6 have the best continuity and most coherent stories. although with the prequels you will have to deal with Midichlorians which is its own nightmare as far as storytelling goes.
