Star wars definately has the better cinematic peaks and is overall more iconic. The run that trek on TV went on from the 80s into the 90s though is unmatched IMO.
I think that RLM has a point when they say that the star wars universe is very limited in the stories that can be told, a huge amount of the franchise is re-treading old ground.
Both franchises are in a bit of a rough state today though I'd argue that trek has fallen further and probably has worse prospect going forward sadly.

The early star wars and the later star trek

So I am a fan of the orginal Trilogy & the orginal Expanded Star Wars universe (now Legends), and have enjoyed the the Star Trek with Kirk, Picard & most of Sisko (original Trek, Next Gen & DS9). I am aware of the other movies, TV shows & at least some of the fiction that has been written in universe for both franchises, but haven't paiid a great deal of attention to it. Yes, I'm sure that I've missed some extraordinary storylines by not paying attention, but that is where I'm coming from.

I have found Trek to a Utopian view of the future & humanity's potential. It offers a vision of the future & all the good that humanity can do do and achieve. It offers hope, and challenges humanity to live up to the potential for good in society. While there are some aspects that demonstrate the darker sides of humanity, Trek tends to show people overcoming those darker aspects and providing a positive to society.

Star Wars on the other hand is a lot ....rougher? less optimistic? It demonstratse the darker aspects of humanity (ex: racism / Empire = human supremacy) and shows them as being an inherent part of the future. While some human societies are able to overcome their darker sides, it remains a part of humanity in general. Wars presents a glimpse of humanities future that in some ways is a mirror of society today that has been expanded into the galaxy and interacts with other societies / races in both good and bad ways. And this doesn't even touch on the Jedi/Sith religous conotations.

In my darker, more pessimistic days, I tend to think that Star Wars represents a more realistic view of how humanity will enter the stars, but Star Trek offers the imagination of how I would like humanity to actually manage it.

But if you are asking which franchise I enjoy more...then the orginal Trilogy of Star Wars is hands down my favorite.

I prefer the world of Star Wars, but in terms of movies/series Star Trek is much better.

Pre-Disney Star Wars was best. DS9 was a close runner up.

og star wars is infinitely rewatchable to me. but next gen is great

The Orville > Star Trek > Stargate > ... > ... > ... > ... > Star Wars.

Farscape. Y'all need to watch Farscape. It is the best of all sci-fi series. Yea, I said it!

John Crichton's decent into madness is a thing of beauty. Also, Scorpius. Darth Vader WAS the coolest, until they introduced that whiny bitch known as Anakin. Now, Scorpius rules as the king of sci-fi villians... and he's not even evil. (Sorry, Q. Sorry, Anubis. Sorry, Palpatine.)

Ive watched every series mentioned here. Y'all need to jump on Farscape, for real.

I like them both, but Star Trek literally assimilated me

If I'm just looking for some sci-fi fun, star wars all the way. If I want some more thought provoking stuff, there are some really great episodes of TNG & DS9. For movies, Star Wars is just better, even (most) of the crappy ones. For some reason it seems like all Star Trek characters become a parody of themselves in the movies...

For me, the star trek pack is pretty good except the J. J. Abrams movies. i didn't like it, maybe it was too much action oriented. the anime series are pretty good too. i didn't see section 31 so i can't tell for this one.
Oh and for the discovery serie, its pretty good but the main character cry too often and it can be boring.

For star wars, i love all the movie exept the J. J. Abrams movie but only for the scenario, the visual was very good . For the serie, i will include the rogue one in that because one serie is linked, they are all pretty good except the one with the twin girl, damn it was awful. The clone wars is my favorite, the mandalorian is second, and i think ahsoka was good too, RIP to Ray stevenson "Baylan Skoll " the one who made a great gliffhanger if you have watch the clone wars serie ;) Hint :
the Father, the Son, and the Daughter in the end when Baylan walk alone.

I like both. Star Trek for being science fiction and Star Wars for being space opera, including the spin-offs, which are often good at focusing on parts of the respective universes or just being refreshingly different. The newer parts of the series and spin-offs partly neglect what makes science fiction or space opera in favor of more action, because the necessary effects have simply become more affordable since 1966 or 1977. In addition, they appeal to younger target groups for whom the older parts of the series are something between badly aged and trash.

I can't be a judge since one of the first videos of star trek I saw was captain Kirk VS. the Gorn. I could never look at it after that.
