When it comes to The Next Gen, i think that above everything else, I was born in the 80s so I also appreciate the original 3 star wars movies more than people born later than me
Star Wars have some good movies, some (very) bad, and a nice extended universe. I think Star Trek win with movies and tv shows, but Star Wars win with the extended/legends universe. Both are important, and have nice things to give.
They're too different to even compare. Well, they should be, modern Star Trek often feels like it's made by people who don't know the difference.
Anyway, Star Wars is for fun, it's not supposed to be that complicated (that doesn't mean it's bad). Star Trek is for when I want to see things like someone questioning what really means to be a living sentient being or... or when I want to see space horrors beyond human understanding fuck up a random members of the crew while everyone runs in circles for 40 minutes trying to understand what's going on while using words that make no sense but sound scientific enough.
I like both but I've always been a bigger Star Wars fan. Not the "Disney Star Wars" trash to be clear.
I need to get back into reading the books, there's so many great stories out there.
For Star Wars, I like the originals, and by that, I mean the ones from the '70s and '80s (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Those were my favorites. Comparing them to Star Trek is challenging because Star Trek was grounded in reality (at least in the old days). For me, the Rick Berman era is still the best with TNG, Voyager, and DS9. I had a big problem with Discovery and stopped watching after Pike's storyline began. Strange New Worlds holds promise for me in the Star Trek universe. The last season of Picard was emotional for me as it bid farewell to the old cast and featured the return of a significant Return of the BIG-D. Regarding Star Wars these days, I blame Kathleen for damaging the franchise.
Seeing as both franchises have been destroyed by woke politics. I loved star wars and star trek growing up. Now I despise both. I hate what the rainbow hair twitter harpies have done to our entertainment.
I think this is by far the most accurate difference between the two. However, the new direction both franchises have undergone changed it for the worse. Star Trek went from science and political to action and Star Wars went from fantasy to nonsensical and pandering instead of focusing on fantasy and quality. Not saying the OG trilogy is perfect (LOTR is of course), but it put escapism and quality over pandering.
Star Trek. The original movies of Star Wars were best, but 1st Star Trek movie sucked. In fact, it's a well known trope that odd number Star Trek movies suck, even numbers are good (the opposite of windows versions...)
Older meme, but true. Windows 11 is pretty good so far, but only had since Feb. When I had 10 it had problems from the start, but that computer was a potato overall.
for me it's not Star Wars vs Star Trek the boat are great but the new one hurt me so bad that i don't want to think about them just saying the wound is fresh
They are very different and I don't really like the comparison, because they have completly different premises... honestly, the only similarity really is "Its space"...
I am a bit of a nerd for both tbh, love them... both have fantastic entries and abysmal ones (and I don't mean "the new stuff is shit, only the old stuff is good"... I do love Strange New Worlds but think Picard Season 2 was trash and I do love Rogue One, but think Episode IX is the worst Star Wars ever made... )
