Hi.

Kernist was banned for staff impersonation for two weeks.

For transparency: Sev originally set it to 30 days. I’m not going to play referee on who’s “right” or “wrong,” especially with the history between you two. I don’t care about the personal beef. I care about the rules and the forum.

Simple takeaway:

Do not impersonate staff.
If you do not have a staff rank, you are not staff. Don’t hint it, don’t roleplay it, don’t “joke” it into existence, and don’t talk like you have authority you don’t have. It creates confusion, drama, and wastes everyone’s time.

Also, on my end: I’m sorry for unbanning Kernist in a way that made Sev look like an idiot. That wasn’t my intent. I should’ve handled it cleaner and communicated better.

That said, 30 days for this was excessive for a first-time situation like this, assuming there wasn’t a pattern. This is what the warning system is for: warn the behavior, assign points, and if someone stacks enough points, bans happen consistently.

Going forward, that’s how I want it handled: warnings first when appropriate, then escalating consequences if it continues. The rule still stands, and if someone keeps doing it, the punishments will get harsher.

Bottom line: don’t impersonate staff. If you want to help the community, do it normally without pretending you have a badge you don’t have.

I respect the decision that is here made. Authority is needed.
But personally I would wish that there was just a formal warning, after every party talked about this honest misunderstanding, where no intention to harm was done.

I mean Kernist was causing harm... to just anyone voicing different opinions on stuff.. acting like they had the final decision on everything and causing people to just stop suggesting anything (or feedback until the change is already done, because who wants to argue with someone endlessly).

I can't find the thread, it was probably within of the rollbacks.
But with that statement I would've also assumed I'm staff like Kernist did.

If someone receives warning points before being banned, do these points expire after a certain period of time during which the person does not commit any further violations?
Or do they accumulate until the ban comes into effect, which would mean that the person would have no chance of rehabilitation?

Furthermore, you banned a member and me without prior warning, even though this system already existed at the time.
You simply did not use it and said that it was your website and you could ban whomever you wanted, whenever you wanted.
You did not care that we had not violated any of the rules that were in effect at the time.

Who protects us from arbitrary and excessive penalties?
Is there an independent instance for this?
If so, how can we contact them, who can we turn to?

Good question, several people seem to be unaware of this and misjudge their position.
How can a member of the support team promise someone that they won't be banned by a moderator or administrator when they themselves are not an staff member, but still claimed to be a trustworthy staff member?

Just as an aside:
the person who was given this false promise was banned less than two days later because they had also mentioned a website that they should not have mentioned and were therefore afraid of being banned and had expressed their concerns for this reason.

There are even regular members who apparently believe that their donations have earned them a higher status than those who cannot or do not want to donate.
Those who try to make themselves look like employees of the moderators or administrators by saying that they are working with them on the problems, when in reality they are only giving them advice on how they think the website should look, just as we all give our feedback, but we do this here and not on Discord.

Thanks for the clarification on how banning will/should take place from here on out.
I think transparency in these matters is of high value to the site and its members.
I also believe knowing about digressions such as this should be provided in the future.
This way other members know who they are interacting with.
