I disagree. Again, a good puzzle or minigame can give the game actual gameplay and make it more fun overall- I've played games with totally skippable game elements where I found myself putting the story and lewd scenes on the backburner while I played the minigame over and over. Not because the other stuff wasn't good, but because the minigame actually was.

But Sturgeon's Law still applies, and for every dev slipping an addictive mechanic into his game there are 9 others making something tedious and miserable and not letting you skip it.

The same goes for all games, a huge chunk of pure VNs are dull shovelware with bad writing, sloppy renders, and nonsensical plots. I think it's just that a sandbox or gameplay-centric game is trying to do much more, so when it screws up at everything it has much further to fall.
If they're skippable, I always do. If they're not, the dev is an asshole.

Playing through Another Chance currently and one is doing point and click right imo.

Yeah, best example of a point and click sandbox done right. There's plenty of instruction on what to do next (but it's totally optional so you can work it out yourself if you want), there's a time system but you're not punished for missing the exact specific time to do something, there's almost always something you can be doing so you're not just hitting the "skip time" button (until you've pretty much finished off the content at least), and all the stuff you click on results in at the very least a snarky comment.

Plus the writing and art are great too.

''If done right, crayons can be as beautiful as oil painting''. Yeah right.

But it can indeed be frustrating (to the point of quitting a game even)

Yep, I quit games (regular and adult) for being too difficult.

Because this way developer can hide lack of content and create an illusion of the game being long. You spend hours trying to find something specific and think you have spend time "playing".

Same with grinding and the bullshit kind of sandbox (good kind = open world, bullshit kind = have to find the exact place [or worse, place and time] to go to advance.)

Very dependant on the game and the plot.
On some games, I really enjoy trying to find the good places and times (especially when there are hints in the discussions with the characterts), on others it's a nightmare.

On certain games it's nice because the world building is good. On others its a grindfest especially if there are multiple characters and limited actions per day.

Ordinary visual novels are just porn stories and don’t feel engaging. But I don’t like a point and click game of it is a grindfest. With moderate ampunt of grind, those are the best slow burners.

Eh, I find these types of games to have some charm, though I am speaking of regular games as opposed to Hentai. Point-and-click I find to be a comfy type game where you can turn off your brain a bit, go at your own pace, immerse yourself in the world searching every nook and cranny, enjoy some puzzles, etc.

I do get the frustration for these when it comes to porn, since the bar for game design here is admittedly low you tend to get some games that are purely filler for the sake of padding the game. Corruption games where you have to repeat the same actions/scenes over and over to unlock something new are the bane of me.

as long as it shows you where to go i dont mind it that much, especially if the art looks good

Then what's the point of having point and click rather than just advancing as normal? Also, now "what's the point of that point and click bullshit in 2025."

I think the goal is make the game is but gameplay hard . you click all screen to find what u need but u do not need to make a science.

I'm not a fan of that either, just want the story to progress a bit faster I guess.

hey, we all have something we prefer over others, ok.

I like point and click but i do have to agree on the grindy part that can get really annoying fast

What's worst is when it requires you to have eagle eyes to find where you're supposed to click - or worse it's like one fucking pixel you have to click.
