Nope, it happened once time due to a failure server migration which corrupted part of the database, it's the same reason why a lot of images are broken when you click on them.

Oooh! That's interesting, and really unfortunate that the site lost images that way. Hopefully someone had those backed up and reposted, but that's not always the case

Consider that games' images are available online so there is no risk for them but it's a long process, the back up is instead required by users' content because only the owner has the original file and maybe someone who saved that artwork.Oooh!
