not worth it selling your old pc you can use it as backup if your new one have any issue, but it you have to sell it make sure to buy new low price HD and install whatever operating system you use as guest don't use your product key for the operating system, the issue with selling your old HD another user might recovery your old and personal data.

Honestly you can have decent luck selling old PCs on Facebook market place since that’s often local pickup. Selling on places like eBay is harder due to the shipping.

I had a bought couple of new parts for my obsolete pc. I hardly used some of them because I got some upgrades from a friend like a month later. When I went to try to see if I could get some of the money back by selling them on eBay, I realized that I'd barely break even because of the shipping costs. It didn't seem worth the hassle, so I just ended up using the parts to make a spare pc.

my old one is in the attic collecting dust, i keep meaning to get it together and give it my son but i just cba paying for the missing parts.

Selling valuable parts or simply giving away an old PC is the way to go. Obviously, your data drives need to stay with you to be used or destroyed. If you can properly purge one, maybe you can install an OS on it and set it up so that it's plug-and-play for the next user. I have occasionally bought RAM or a data drive to install in an old computer to give away to friends and family. I've gotten rid of at least two or three PCs that way. Keeping an old, decent laptop around as a server machine is a good idea, also. You never know when you could benefit from a private server for gaming, VPN routing, or whatever else. Not that I do it, just a thought.

I shamelessly rely on friends who get rid of their old computers. I don't need the latest or greatest. I just need it to run lol. As far as ssd goes, i would prefer that they be removed, and if the owner doesn't want the data then wipe it clean, and destroy it. I never want any friend of mine to even remotely think I have any personal data.

I just realized my attic is becoming quite full with old computers, every 2-3 years I tend to buy a new computer with latest and greatest hardware. Like i have just put away an 5800x3d computer with rtx3080 nvidia the other day, since I have upgraded to 7800x3d with 7900gre. I always keep my old computers, since I have a lot of room and no need to sell for funds. Does anyone have experience reselling computers? Do you keep the ssd's in or sell without? Is it actually worth selling? What prices would like my 3rd oldest system get it consists of a I9-11900k , 32gb, 1tb nvme ssd, with 6800xt amd. In a rgb case I don't know the name.
O.P, if you need a charity case, I'm willing to suffer 😃 lol

If you just have an old PC lying around I would definitely recommend turning it into a NAS. Pretty easy to do and incredibly useful.

I typically only keep my main gaming PC for about a year, maybe two before making changes. I have had the same PC case for a very long time because I don't purchase assembly line computers other than laptops which I typically keep between 3-5 years. My friends know this so I always give my old used stuff to them. My main PC is usually much more ahead of the technology than what they use so they are getting upgrades as I upgrade. I haven't owned a store bought desktop PC since I finished school more than 25 years ago.

My old computer was so bad that people wouldn't take it for free. It survived so many years of gaming and "productivity", so I shouldn't be complaining. RIP to all my beloved devices that have served me well when they could.

I converted my old PC into a Plex server by undervolting the CPU and switching to a quieter fan to get the perfect media player.

Think I’m better off destroying any computer once it dies… then spreading all the parts far and wide

Guys actually the new videocard shortage has made older hardware valuable again. I wanted to buy a 5090 RTX of course nobody was selling, but then I see a lot of old hardware prices go up. So if you have a few years old hardware now is the best time to sell!

Yes, but I never get around to doing so and just give them away to some friends or relatives.

hardly, unless you had a really good computer. people expect crazy deals over here

Yes, but always sell the graphics card separate and cpu preinstalled in motherboard first, since those parts are usually the most valuable.

If you want to get rid of them, if components are in a good state I think you could either go for spare parts (like on eBay) or, if they aren't too old, make entry-level builds for those gamers who don't really care to play at 1k FPS in ultra graphics and can't afford state-of-the-art PCs (given that most build your own PC sites tend to suggest newer parts because, of course, they too have to sell their stuff). Unfortunately nowadays gaming and tech in general, especially when talking about parts and performance, pushes so much on FOMO that's hard and we gamers as a whole allowed it by feeding the market.
As for storage units, it's a touchy subject: while it's true that flash storage made enormous steps regarding reliability, it's always a risk to byu/sell used SSDs. If you want to sell them, your best shot might be searching if any tech/PC store buys them to refurbish them for their own sales as spare parts or in builds.
