If you could pick any game from before 2020 to get a full remake what game would you pick?

I to wish classics could stay classic but i want them to be playable and enjoyable on newer hardware. Typically without having to jump through hoops.

Thats why i specified things the way i did. I hate when they change or "Update Writing" like no. I want it to be updated to be playable on new hardware. maybe better physics. leave the story and characters alone. Im fine with them adding more content if necessary but do not change the base story or characters and the new content should have to match.

I heard they remade it but never looked into it. Was it that bad?

I will absolutely look into this one cause that just sounds interesting. by a lot.
Before you looking it's actually Star Ocean my mistake. Phantasy star is more about advaced civilization that fall into ruin and reverted back into medieval world. I missrembered thos two coz the theme is kinda similar

definitely the force unleashed. if it was already said i was to lazy to look through the entire post

So what im reading is i have 2 games to look into when i get free time

repeating games is fine. Im asking each individuals opinion essentially. I also agree. 1 and 2 on newer hardware would go so hard

FF4 or FF6. I'd want to experience those stories in a completely new, fresh way. Not just art-style.

Makes sense. Some amazing games would do well from an update to engines and graphics

Koudelka and/or Shadow Hearts. A bit niche, I know, but I just loved their mix of humor, fantasy and tragedy.

GTA Vice City and San Andreas would be on my list, also Total Annihilation, C&C series, Earth 2140, Postal 2, Blood and Redneck Rampage

Even niche ones can be amazing and gain more players.

I would love vice city and San Andreas remade. Id play the shit out of them again.

I am against remakes in any form. This also applies to games. Each game belongs to its own era. Therefore, for example, I am sure that the creation of a remake of the Summertime Saga will fail. This game belongs to the previous decade, too much has changed in the past ten years.

You make a good point. Games are of their time. But the original version doesn't stop existing, ideally. We can always go experience it. If it's a creative attempt and not a soulless cash grab (which yes, is rarely the case), I'd say it could become something of the current time as well. Look at XCOM. That was remade in a very tasteful way into a beloved game.

While I understand this there are times when classics are lost due to hardware differences or simply data loss. I like tasteful remakes cause it keeps the spirit alive. Its rare they are done well but sometimes a good well done remake helps the company relearn its roots to release an even better new game in the franchise.

Games could be of their time but id prefer a remake to losing them entirely

The sidescrolling was the big turn-off. It just didn't feel like a zelda game. I think over the years, it's gained appreciation for what it is. For me, I think the open world felt a bit gated, and the leveling system was a bit odd. But early gaming days, there were no rules yet, no expectations.

Ah ok. I was never into the Zelda games anyway so it makes sense that i dont know

Thirsty for My Guest
But I'd prefer they finish the game first and then the remake, because if they do a remake it will take several more years.

Thats fair

If you had a say in any game before 2020 getting a full remake what would you pick? Im talking from the engine up. Graphics, sound, physics, etc. The only things that stays the same is the story, character, dialogue, etc.
IGI... The goated series.. though they said there will be a third game but that was almost a decade ago...
