Back when you were in school, I'm sure you witnessed highly motivated people, people who studied hard, worked hard, participated in school government, performed in plays, played in orchestra, went out for sports, and postponed things like marriage and children. You also probably witnessed unmotivated losers who sat in the bedroom all day staring at their phones. Which people are destined to have a better path in life?

Most of the former were already from rich families. And I was in my 40s when people started having smartphones. Success is a matter of circumstances of birth and luck - overwhelmingly.

The ones with rich parents.

The number one indicator of future wealth is being born into wealth. Sure, some people come up from absolutely nothing and succeed. And some people are given the world on a silver platter and piss it away. Both are very much the exception, not the rule. The scions of the rich have every advantage from day 1: no struggle to eat or keep the lights on, tutors, great schools, access to arts and literature, networking (daddy's and mommy's rich friends and their rich kids), politicians in their parent's pockets, protection from consequences of their actions (cops and judges in daddy's pocket etc.) and anything else you can imagine. Not to mention a financial system set up to deal increasing amounts of wealth to increasingly few hands with the end result being the American worker reduced to the equivalent of the Chinese worker, working for subsistence wages and a couple bowls of rice a day, and expected to be thankful to our betters for that much because hey! We have Iphones to play with in what spare time we manage to eke out working two or three jobs and living with three generations in one shack or tenement room. All so we can have trillionaires going to space while destroying this planet. But, why worry? AI will probably kill us all, including the trillionaires, by 2050 anyway...
