How do you feel about AAA or similar core game content being pay walled?

Good for them. Hope someone leaks it. If not, whatever.

Why should any dev care what the people pirating their game have to say?

They get literally nothing from it. The only people they are beholden to are the ones giving them fapbux.

And those guys all get the full game and won't care that leeches are seething.

Anyone that thinks people refusing to pirate some game matter to a dev, or should matter to them, has an overblown sense of self importance.
You do know the pirate sites are where people usually find ones to patron later, right? That's why devs show up there, or even release there

Exactly. There are several games, where i started to support the dev, after finding the game on a forum like here.

I won't play Adult games with significant portions paywalled, core or not. I don't always count DLC in that though, but I usually do.

Vexxed, but usually also sympathetic, people gotta eat.

Adult game devs tend to be solo or small teams, so alienating a large group of customers by introducing a paywall sounds like a very bad business move, especially in a competitive field like this.

But as a response to what OP asked, I dislike paywalling core game content, especially when your game is open to the public. There are a ton of competitors out there that release free updates, and as a dev, do you think you can inveigle enough people to pay for that extra content in your game when there are literally thousands of other free games out there?
And besides, people are more likely going to pirate it anyway, better to release it all for free and hope people will support you instead. Better for your public image as well.

Just a marketing system, cuz there are still people who do just fine with talent alone

There is nothing wrong with that. People should be paid for their work. The type of monetization can be decided by the developer. Earning money is necessary, not selfish

Cringe and a dick move but we are all content thieves so its a wash. If its fucking over their paying subscribers then its an even bigger dick move and you should cut all support.

I don't mind if bc they allow a path to us getting the content.
Just gotta not be a lurker on this one boys

I'm against it purely just because I think the developers doing it are being stupid. I would personally say sites like this is a good form of marketing and if they use paywalls that would just turn a lot of people away. I have supported developers and a paywall would not entice me to support someone just for the extra content, I support people based on how much I actually like their work.

If we are talking about VN's I don't feel anything game-related should be locked behind a paywall. We all know that the games are getting posted on sites like this one. Hell, it's really how people who have disposable income find them to help us foot the bills. I am fine with bonus content that is not part of the game in anyway like discord access, bonus renders, custom renders, and things like that. Just don't lock characters, storylines, gallery, replay or things like that behind them. If you want to control how your game gets released to the public by tiers for how fast it's released that is fine, just don't be a greedy asshat and lock anything about the game itself behind paywalls.

As for other types of games, there are 2 acceptable things for paywall. Bonus cosmetics (that give zero advantage to players) and true expansions that add a lot of content to the game.

It depends
Someone dropping a one time release on steam, sure paywall the whole thing.
Expecting me to pay monthly for the CORE game elements no way, sooner or latter that will add up and evens surpass a regular game made by a studio. Leave that to extra patreon only scenes not core things. Maybe it can be excused if it's one of those accounts that only charge when they update but those are few and far between. Both in art and games the best method has always been timed paywalls, and non critical exclusives. You need incentive for people to pay, but you also need advertising for the people who aren't paying yet. You can't mystery box too hard because people will choose their wallet over the mystery behind the wall. Not to mention the faith that someone will eventually rip it.

I like free and there is enough content out there that I don't think I would pay for anything. But I understand people need to make money.

When it's like a mainstream game, that can really kill it for me, but when it's an h-game, then I'll either just pay if I like it enough or just wait until it's uploaded somewhere else
Or maybe I have that backwards lol

I can accept scenes blocked, but characters or content limited does not seem right to me

not too happy abot this LC coins thing i feel like everybodymy self included just post random stuff to get coins now

It is understandable but in reality is not practical at all and will make everyone hate you.
