As big as the dev wants as long as the game doesn't become a boring fuckfest.

I'd say anything above 3 is hard to care about but the real problem in harem type games is the dev just throwing a stream of new girls at you for one-night stands instead of actually letting you progess with the girls you actually want.

Anything beyond 4 or 5 requires too much of a suspension of reality. The logistics of keeping 6 or more girls happy and sexually satisfied are next to impossible...

For me it isn't about the number of people as much as the variety. If they are all sufficiently unique than keep them coming (literally) but if it all blends together (Tomboy Supremacy, Day at the Spa) then it gets tedious.

a little off topic but thats the reason I'm hesitant about day at the spa. Would you say it's still worth playing? (I'm already playing 50+ games )

I loved the start, liked where it's at, and am worried about the future. Definitely play what's there, it isn't long, but maybe it should just close down before it gets too long in the tooth.

Can't ever be too big tbh. As long as the girls are unique and there's lots of group scenes I'm satisfied. I'm playing Polyturnon right now and there's so many I lost count, does anyone know more games like that with a huge harem?

As long as you can distinguish between each person in the harem. I think Hunie Pop had a good balance. I think that was like what? 12-13 girls?

If the gameplay/story involves them all living together, any more than 5 and members seem to be unexplainably absent through story beats which is a big no from me.
If it's the sort of game where they all mostly live separately and only interact with one-another on occassion then the limit can be much higher.

The harem is too big when the characters feel bland and without depth. A skilled author can make the whole cast a harem, an unskilled one cannot handle a single love interest

For me, 4-5 girls is the maximum, I think. Any more than that isn’t as good, although I haven’t lost interest in any game because of it.
