I also think this is the general direction. Getting more and more heat by governments.

The funny thing is, the various ratings bureaus across the world were created specifically to prevent such government interference. The only reason it didn't is because of lazy, good-for-nothing parents who didn't bother to do any amount of research before buying their kids whatever games they wanted, then blaming the game companies for their own negligence.

Yeah I have to agree with the general consensus that a triple A porn game is unlikely though I find that even with non porn games I enjoy games made by indie devs so it doesn't feel too disheartening.

It's been said, but if it's an "only porn" porn game, I don't think people would find the market to be that succesful. Especially with all the new tensions between payment providers and others. But if it's a game with porn... tones? Sure, I see it being developed in the future sometimes. Like. BG3 and Cyberpunk are already skirting some of the lines, it wouldn't be that weird to see something more intense in 5 years or more

at the moment probably too niche. not sure most people think of porn being in a game form. like @jone1 said if games keep pushing the limits then maybe. was about 40 years ago video games we pushed aside and had small following at conventions alongside porn as a waste of time and almost taboo, now both have bigger audiences and more open followings as well as their own award shows. we were approaching an age of free expression, think like the free love of the 60s but banks put a stall on that

I mean what actually is Triple A? Technically we already did get AAA Porn games, Sierra made a handful of those back in the 90's, Leisure Suit Larry; And whatever FLOW is is basically such at this point.

Pretty sure budget wise The Genesis Order had gotten that much.

Nah I don't think there ever will be a AAA porn game. There's too much free stuff out there that it'll defer people's attention away. Also I feel like no one would fund it anyways.

The idea has potential but we are better off not getting triple A games of that sort, of course content of that quality would be great. The other people have already stated why this won't happen though.

I think no, the censorship it's a bit big nowadays, and they are not that mainstream, I believe they will be huge productions, maybe a little bigger that the usual studio depending on a patreon, but not truly AAA games with millions of dollars implied

No, a AAA porn game will never happen because astronomical budgets of AAA and strict censorship laws (of which everyone here is familiar) make the financial risk impossible. Modern AAA games cost hundreds of millions of dollars to produce and market, requiring millions of sales just to break even. On top of that, I believe that explicit adult games are banned outright on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, and are heavily restricted or geo-blocked on Steam. Without console distribution, the ability to run mainstream advertising campaigns, and an already niche audience, a high-budget adult game is completely financially unviable.

Of course, that doesn't mean the mainstream modding of a AAA game isn't a viable path forward. Lots of interesting mods out there for New Vegas, Cyberpunk 2077, etc.

There are various levels of porn. While it is unlikely that we'll get hardcore porn in a top tier game (not counting the modded versions, of course), softcore porn is already there. Check our Lunar Eclipse on Steam which contains full, explicit nudity - optional, of course, but genuinely built into the game.

If you count the modded versions, Skyrim has hardcore sex mods. Many other games have nude mods, but they mostly modify or remove clothing. There are a few that give male characters an erect penis, but AFAIK only Skyrim has mods with full on sex ( and maybe a few other games like Sims and Fallout - I haven't played those ).

This thread aged poorly... with the current climate it feels like only a matter of time until porn games have no way to get any payment at all, other than crypto. No chance AAA will ever touch porn unless things get better.

I doubt a mainstream AAA publisher like EA would ever finance this, even if they thought it might be profitable they wouldn't want the reputation. But I could see a major pornography publisher like Aylo (MindGeek) deciding to finance a porn game with a budget comparable to AAA, similar to how Pirates was published by Adam & Eve and had a million dollar budget.

Not for any foreseeable future. The funding for AAA games is too precarious to make a specifically porn game for not much reward. Maybe Taiwan or Japan has one of their studios get big enough to make a AAA-feeling game.

And if it was Japan it would be worthless for 2 reasons - it would be:
1. cartoony
2. censored
