Do you prefer games with multiple choices that affect the story or a linear story where choices don't affect anything?

As an RPG fan, I prefer multiple choices that affect the story

its complicated because i like multiple choices as long as they are not completely vague and locks characters away without you knowing.

although props for giving you a choice for the more out there fantasies.

I like both.

For quicker fapping, the linear ones are great to speed through and find a lewd scene for a good fap.

But when I want some immersion, I need choice.

Yes, then you have more to play and can make 1 or 2 runs more.

Both, but I prefer one-finished-linear story made by devs as they intended it, without IFs or many arcs

I prefer linear with decisions that skip scenes to not see a particular fetish. I just don't want to be concerned about what I chose in these games

For VNs if the love interests have different personalities i prefer multiple choices if they have a same personality i prefer linear.

Multiple choices. At the very least, it's a semblance of gameplay. As for kinetic novels - I'm more than happy to post a normal book or watch an equally normal movie.

The choice to shape your game is the most engaging, but the games with no meaningful choice can be a nice change of pace.

I'm someone that likes to see all the scenes im interested in and then not play the game again, so I will play and then just unlock the gallery if possible. So I like the approach of a game like WVM where the only choice is "do you want to fuck this characters yes/no?"

For immersion the choices with impact is better, but if the scenes and the story is good it dont matter too much i think

Generally linear. Having multiple significantly differing branches means that either a) I have to go through multiple replays to see the differences, or b) the dev could be putting out the content that I want faster by ignoring the other branches.

Very few games make option a) worthwhile

It depends on the LIs available in the game. If I like one in particular, I'd prefer a story with choices that lead me on a path (preferably a love path) with that LI. If I don't like any particular LI, I woudn't care much.

If the writing is good go for the linear. If it's mid multiple choices help keep me engaged when otherwise I woulda been outski.

If they don't matter or don't exist, it isn't a game it's a kinetic novel and I FUCKING HATE kinetic novels. If I didn't want input I'd just watch porn.

I think games are more immersive when the choices are meaningful. However I prefer that there is only around 2-3 paths one can take, since I can replay a game once but more is pushing it.
Also devs can make more content for a few paths instead of a little bit for many paths.

I think your thinking is misguided. We have to be realistic with development of amateur AVN games too. So, a central linear story is always a strong point and what should be expected. If there are choices that change something, then they should be minimal, or the story would degrade to crap.
Of course, if we have a high budget, we have a lot more liberties, but even then, choices tend to water down the plot.

Usually those that have a straight story are very grindy but multiple ending gives a very straight forward play. But both can be good or bad. It is all how it is done
