Do you have any game engine biases? And what are those bias making us miss out on?

I like Renpy games the most because they have nice qol features and are easy to take apart. I feel like a lot of Unity games unsuccessfully try to emulate Renpy. HTML and RPGM games are usually just painful to play.

Also Renpy games can run even on a potato machine like mine:)
 
UE games usually run like crap. A lot of them you need to save and quit every hour or so to prevent them from freezing.
 
I hate HTML games with all my heart
HTML games(usually running SugarCube) could be better if they were made any other way. Saves have to be manually organized if you don't want to lose anything and the developers keep making them a grind.
 
I'm quite partial to Renpy, I don't know anyone who outright dislikes it. I can't stand RPGM. Is there anything I'm missing out on in that space? I also adore love-joint games, but find it hard to be in the headspace to get through whatever they're using. It's pretty sluggish and all those separate episodes are a pain, so I don't play them often or replay them if I'm done, as much as I'd like to. I kinda wish someone (preferably the creators themselves) went back and redid them in Renpy as an entire experience, but that's neither here nor there. What about you guys?


I hate with a passion the huge hard on everyone has with unreal engine it reminds me of the 2005-2013 era were every game started to have the same issues same assets and i swear only 2 trash cans. Oh also so many of the same play style

Today unreal engine is full of stuff to maximize game creation with the fewest staff members and again to allow copy/paste assets i mean there has been games that were just assets flips straight up. Ai creation is great for helping sure but when it kills the entire art department/writers/auto terrain build mode and you say yeah it cost 300mliion to make just fuck right off with that.

So to me i hate unreal by making the industry kill creativity along with relying on one company to do what ever they want.

I also hate unity before the ceo shit it was the merger with ironsource.



 
Unity when they could have used Renpy for the same result. Just... why?!
 
It's well known most of us prefer Renpy as Unity is often clunky with no fast forward, and Unreal adult games are just terrible.
 
Joining in on the unity hate train. Especially since it's harder to do anything with the files than every other engine put together half of the time if I want to skip an annoying grind or something, not to mention that of all of the game engines that I've actually had crashes in, Unity is about 95% of them. As far as adult content goes.
 
Unreal. It is so popular nowadays that people who don't know anything about good mechanics and how to develop create horrible games.

HTML games and AI is joining forces to create really bad stories. There’s some on Gamcore i didng go any further than 5 minutes of gameplay
 
I hate RPGM-games , BUT if developer making something out of beyond rpgm engine -where game doesn't look like rpgm engine, then i give try.
i definitely agree most RPGM-games does not even worth trying even with grind sandbox stuff
 
Renpy only, unless its a japanese game.

RPGM is a no because that usually means combat and I don't know who wants RPG combat mechanics in a porn game, except for a dev who wants to pad playtime.

UE/Unity run like shit most of the time, and are 4k for no good reason (which bloats the install size).
