Do you have any game engine biases? And what are those bias making us miss out on?

I'm quite partial to Renpy, I don't know anyone who outright dislikes it. I can't stand RPGM. Is there anything I'm missing out on in that space? I also adore love-joint games, but find it hard to be in the headspace to get through whatever they're using. It's pretty sluggish and all those separate episodes are a pain, so I don't play them often or replay them if I'm done, as much as I'd like to. I kinda wish someone (preferably the creators themselves) went back and redid them in Renpy as an entire experience, but that's neither here nor there. What about you guys?

If I can access the code and/or images it raises my appreciation of an engine greatly. I love Ren'Py for its ease of editing, so it's definitely my favorite. RPGM can be a lot of fun to play as an actual game, but is harder to edit. 'Other' engines can sometimes be easy to edit, but you never know what you're going to find with them. Unity games are not great as you need more editing knowledge and tools than I have been able to acquire so far, but there are some great games that don't need to be edited. Unreal engine is impossible to play without a mouse as well as being inaccessible for editing, so it's down there with my least favorites. HTML is mostly real porn which does nothing for me, and text based engines don't have enough pictures for me, so I rarely will even bother downloading those.

In that space, I quite like Corpo Life (though it isn't without it's many faults). and the other game by that creator, School Story, is quite promising. Depends on how you feel about real-porn used in games, and JAV for that matter.

Outside of House Chores, I can't bring myself to play one. I suppose I just don't wanna walk around a little dude to get to better art. Ludo-narrative dissonance

I did say can be fun, games like Peasant Quest, and Incest Adventure for example. But they're more for having some porn in a video game rather than consuming a porn story. You also want to wait longer for them to develop before you start playing, preferably waiting for them to be finished.

I definitely have a bias for Renpy. It is able to pretty much create anything, and it's honestly the better engine right now for visual novels most especially. It has a great community of modders too right now.

Typically i'll stick to Renpy, but i'll run an HTML if the file size isn't too big. Some get bloated by hundreds of porn gifs.

I can't stand the grind with RPGM, needs to be updated I believe to a more modern standards.

I hate RPGM and refuse to download anything using that engine. In my opinion it is for devs that are too lazy to put in the work and render everything. They would rather waste your time having you troll around in a 16 bit character mode and only render what they have to. I do not care how good people say some games are. I refuse to download them.

I absolutely hate Tyranobuilder.

I'm also not a fan of Unity VNs because most of them are missing standard VN QoL features and have an awful save system.

Loved flash games back in the day, and always will hate RPGM, but even then i'll make exceptions (Bone Tales, Paradise Beach)

I keep trying to give unity games a chance, but they just sit in my hard drive unopened. it's a slog to even commit to turning one on. There's gotta be a good one though, I'm sure I'm missing out somewhere there

I hate RPGM games, and I am hoping for a Renpy/VN conversion of Treasure of Nadia and other games that would be great if they were on a different engine

This is exactly the kind of thing that I made this thread for! I've never heard of that game because of my bias. I'm gonna go for it, see if it's worth the disdain
