Do you change the MC's name and to what?

I usually go with the default, because I had several games, where the name I chose was identical to another NPC and it made the conversations difficult to read.
But if I know, what names to avoid in regard to this problem, I usually choose
for female: Myrmianda (or short Myr, if I'm lazy)
for male: Vince

I simply cannot play games where the main characters have the same names as my daughters or sister.

How about you?

Farily. If male I like to use my own name. Kind of annoying when you cant, especially if the name is foreign or of someone you don't like.

Agreed. There are certain names that are either too good, or too bad, in my head to be put into a game. There's also ones I tend to always add, especially with love interests, and 99% of the time use the same name for a male protagonist.

I will mention, from a developer's standpoint, it is relatively easy to have the names changeable in Ren'py.

The only reason I can comprehend of why a major character gets stuck with a name is because the developer plans to use that character cross-game or cross-story so there is continuity. Only thing that trumps my preference, IMHO.

I don't need that option for LIs and I don't care if they were named after my mom or sis.
Believe it or not but neither my mom nor sis have names that are uncommon. So seeing those names in a porn game isn't weird at all.

For MC though, it's important to me.
Most devs give a default name anyway but I like to have the option to change it.

I never rename caracteres, so I don't mind not having the option to change it. What I mind, though, is when the MC don't have a default name. I had to manually edit the name from the savefile more than once because the name I chose was the same of another character that started appearing later on.

For other characters, I'm kinda ok with not being able to change their names. For MC, I like using my own name because it adds more immersion to the game. Kind of the same as self inserting yourself to the story which it is lol.

Prefer that you can change names. More often, it helps follow the storyline better, when there are lots of characters.

I prefer using the default names for the characters.
I mean, should I name the MC after me?
Usually when there is no default option I go with a random name, like John.

If possible, I change the character names, especially if there are many "LI" in the game.

Exactly what I do, but the random name many times is already on the game and there's no warning, so some scenes just become a mess...

I'll use the rename option if there is one. But even if there isn't one, it's not a deal breaker for me.

I name all my male characters Max or Maxwell (if I'm feeling fancy) and my female characters Maxine. I have an on going head canon about the spirit of Max/Maxine that possesses these seemingly happy families kills the dad or makes him never exist in the first place and turns the family into an incestuous hellscape or the female characters into sluts. The spirit of Max/Maxine is truly the oral sex demon that we once thought was fake. So yeah immersion is a bit fucked.

I do like renaming mainly for the MC, i dont mind not being able to renaming the various LI

Very. Like why would you want to fuck the LIs and they scream a different name instead of yours if youre playing a POV game.

For me it's not about them reminding me of people I know, it's more about names that really don't seem to fit the character (I think this is sometimes due to devs coming from a different culture to me, and you end up with a young character with a name that seems to me like granny name)

Oh, or names that are really similar, especially characters who are already easy to confuse, like calling twins Mia and Maya or something - parents should never do this and nor should devs.

So for me, being able to change them is a definite plus, but not essential. (I also wish that games would warn you when you try to change your name to the same name as another character - I accidentally chose a name once that was the same as a fairly major fixed-name character who wasn't introduced right at the start, and I didn't want to restart, but it was weird and confusing.

i like to rename the Mc to Daddy in all games. gives the feeling that i fuck my daughters instead of my sisters 🤪

Interesting. I never think of the MC as being me. I think of it as embodying another character. If I actually felt like it was me, with most of the games I play (and the way I play them) thinking of the MC as myself would make me feel pretty fucking terrible about my life choices, to be honest.
