Do ratings affect whether you download a game?

Some, but not a lot.

Usually a 4 or 5 will get me to try it, unless the fetish tags are a total turnoff for me. But a 3 or 3.5 that promises to hit my favorite ones gets a shot even if the game itself kinda sucks

What matters is maybe number of ratings and trend over time?

Small number is easily bent by someone butthurt/overzealous.

Improving trend = dev does something right, even if rough edges.
Worsening trend = flashy start, ended in ditch.

Only if it mentions a certain genre I'm actively avoiding.

If i see a game that caught my attention, the rating doesnt matter at all. But searching for games i would try the ones with high rating that doesnt match my preferences

Yes they matter to me, but sometimes they fail me. Sometimes games that are rated 3 stars are great, and sometimes games that are rated 5 stars, I wonder how in the world they are so highly regarded.

It matters to me as well. I will still have a look at games that have worse ratings but I am usually very hesitant.

No. Games are far too subjective, especially, these types of games for me to listen to someone elses overall opinion. I do glance through some reviews to see any obvious points.

Yes, if the rating is too low and the preview interested me, I try to understand why, and often it makes me avoid the game

if i see a low rating, my guess its has bad mechanic or huge grind/repetitive mechanic

Rather than just looking at the weighted rating, I like to look up some of the lengthier reviews as those often give a good overview of what the game has to offer such as its strengths and shortcomings.

I also often find that 2 and 3 star reviews are much more useful in seeing if a game would be interesting or good. They often highlight the clear issues with the game, while 5 star reviews don't. People seem to have a very low standard when it comes to what makes a game interesting. Especially when it comes to the story aspect, there are always way too many 5 star reviews praising the story when in reality, the story is just super boring, cliched, and overdone.

It depends on how many ratings there are - and what the tags are -- a game with a low rating that features NTR with only a few reviews I would probably still download because I would assume that the haters be hating. otherwise I tend to avoid a game with a rating of 3.5 or lower if there are 6 or more ratings

I mostly ignore the ratings unless it's below 2 and then I'll read the reviews to see why it's that low. A rating that low usually means game breaking bugs.

If a game has a rating of 1 out of 5 or 2 out of 5, then in all probability it really is a slag. The classic of this kind is Sun City. Although reviews are worth reading anyway. It is more difficult with games/VN with 4 or 5 stars. It can be both a very successful project, and completely (for me personally) unplayable. A classic example for me is Grandma's House. The rating is very high, but I couldn't get through this VN as I started falling asleep from boredom. In general, the rating may matter, but you should always read the reviews of a particular project. The more detailed the review - the better.

It depends on the number of people who has rated it, but yeah some too low ratios can make me consider it.

If it a 1 then it must have some serious problems, I'm not a fan on giving 1 to game that have things like NTR or other subject the player don't like.

if it has 4-5 stars and tags I like I'll get it
2-3 stars and I'll check the reviews to see what's wrong and go from there
1 star I'll probably not get unless the tags or premise really entice me
also depends on the amount of reviews too like if it's just one guy who gave it a 1 star I'll probably check it out for myself

Short answer: nope. I dont even read these ratings or comments as i want experience the game without knowing its bad or good.
At the end, there can be clowns or tools who rate something good or bad which are the opposite. Like on Amazon or any other shop you cant trust these completely.

Definitely. Maybe not on this site because there aren't many reviews but definitely on F95 I do

Don't really pay attention to the ratings because isn't really a matter of to each his own? What someone else likes or hates may not reflect your own opinion. If a game interests me, I'll give it a try and decide for myself.
