Games with animations are always better than still pictures or just plain texts, next generation will be the VR generation. but now it's looks like a step back in quality.

Animations can improve the gameplay ... when its used wisely in the gameplay and doenst ruin the flow.

Well done animations are great, but some devs should stick with still images. Sometimes less is actually more.

It depends on the animations really. If they suck, I'd rather play game with images only.

Yes, I do feel like animations improve the experience a lot, but not nearly as much as genuinely good writing and character development. That said I think we should be able to ask for both as the technology to make the animations are getting better and easier to use.

Absolutely, animations give a better sense of quality to a game. More likely than not, including them will boost interest and attract players.

Surely yes! It's like to ask "What's better: to eat fried potatoes with cheese sauce or without?"

Only if they're done well , 2-3 frames going back and forth are not considered animation imho

I find that most games (but not all) that include animations, improve the gameplay and consequently the desire to remain with that game, looking forward to each update.
Looking for the "animations" tag in the genre, is one of my go-to seeks for any new game. Thumbs up to those dev's who include them.
if done right, yes they do

That depends. If the animations aren't choppy and of similar image quality to the still images they do. If the still images are of good quality and interrupted by choppy and blurry animations they do not and would better be left out.

Yeah it all depends on the animation themselves. But if they are good, I def say they improve a game, no doubt about it.

The quality of animations is typically good enough that they are an improvement over just images. My only concern is that they probably take a lot more time to make. That may or may not be time that would otherwise have gone into still renders and into advancing the story. With great animations that's clearly worth it, but with mediocre animations probably not.

If the art is very good that's ok but if the animation and art are of a similar quality then animation will always be better

Yes, if they are good animations.
But most of the time they are unfortunately not.
Animations are hard and require a lot of work.
Sometimes I would prefer that the author of the game did not waste time trying to also make animations, but focusing only on the contents.
